Vietnam Airlines and Scandinavian Airlines have agreed to a codeshare agreement to enhance air connectivity between Vietnam and the Scandinavian region (including Denmark, Norway and Sweden).

The event took place under the witness of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Mr. Benjamin Dousa, Minister of International Cooperation and Foreign Trade of Sweden, within the framework of the Vietnam-Sweden Business Forum.

According to the agreement, Vietnam Airlines' codeshare flights with Scandinavian Airlines will display Scandinavian Airlines' flight number (code SK), and vice versa, flights operated by Scandinavian Airlines will also carry Vietnam Airlines' flight number (code VN).

Vietnam Airlines currently operates 106 routes to 22 domestic destinations and 36 international destinations in 20 countries. As the first Southeast Asian airline to join the SkyTeam alliance (since 2010), Vietnam Airlines owns the most modern fleet in Asia with fuel-efficient aircraft such as the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and Airbus A350.

Scandinavian Airlines, founded in 1946, is the leading airline in the Nordic region, with hubs in Copenhagen, Oslo and Stockholm. It serves more than 25 million passengers a year, transporting 60,000 tonnes of cargo to 135 destinations in Europe, North America and Asia.

Passengers only need to book and check in once with one of the two airlines to make the entire journey from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Copenhagen (Denmark), Stockholm (Sweden) and Oslo (Norway). These are important financial and cultural centers and attractive destinations for tourists , international students and businessmen.

In addition, Vietnam Airlines Golden Lotus Plus members can accumulate flight miles and use bonus points to buy reward tickets when flying with other airlines in the SkyTeam alliance.

Mr. Dang Anh Tuan, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Airlines expressed: “We are pleased to cooperate with Scandinavian Airlines, one of the leading national airlines in the Nordic region, with a wide flight network across Europe and services imbued with Scandinavian culture.

The fact that both airlines are members of the SkyTeam airline alliance creates a solid foundation for implementing an effective codeshare agreement, providing passengers with more destination options and increased benefits for members of both parties’ frequent flyer programs. At the same time, this is also an important step in promoting economic, trade and cultural exchange between Vietnam and the Scandinavian region.”

“We hope that this new partnership with Vietnam Airlines will strengthen Scandinavian Airlines’ presence in Southeast Asia and provide passengers with more options when travelling internationally,” said Paul Verhagen, Chief Operating Officer of Scandinavian Airlines.

As the world’s most punctual airline, we are delighted to expand our network to Vietnam through Vietnam Airlines, a prestigious partner with international recognition for safety and punctuality. This agreement not only provides our passengers with more convenient international flight options, but also opens up opportunities to explore a Vietnam rich in identity with beautiful nature, unique culture and delicious cuisine."

The codeshare cooperation between Vietnam Airlines and Scandinavian Airlines opens up opportunities for Vietnam to increase its presence in Northern Europe, while promoting economic, trade and investment exchanges.

The codeshare cooperation between Vietnam Airlines and Scandinavian Airlines opens up opportunities for Vietnam to increase its presence in Northern Europe, while promoting economic, trade and investment exchanges between the two sides. This is also the foundation for developing bilateral cooperation in long-term strategic areas such as green technology, clean energy transition and sustainable development.

The Nordic region is considered one of the potential markets, thanks to its stable economy, high living standards and high demand for tourism, especially in winter, when people tend to seek warm destinations rich in cultural experiences such as Southeast Asia, including Vietnam. In 2024, the number of visitors between Vietnam and Scandinavian countries will reach nearly 144 thousand, an impressive growth of 37% over the same period last year.

To meet this growing demand, Vietnam Airlines plans to open its first route to Northern Europe, connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Copenhagen from December 2025, supporting the exploitation of the potential from the high-end and business travel segment in this region.
