Sharing his perspective on this issue, a representative of a well-known beef restaurant said that the restaurant does not allow customers to bring in outside food in any form. According to the restaurant, customers bringing in outside food or drinks can happen in all F&B business models and is a "painful" problem for those working in F&B.

"The impact on the restaurant's revenue is just a small matter. The more important issue is that when customers bring outside food into the restaurant, there are many potential risks that can occur. When the input is not controlled, the restaurant can encounter food safety and hygiene accidents," the restaurant explained the reason for the above regulation.

In addition, this unit also said that in food processing, there are many types of ingredients that when used alone may not cause any problems. However, when combined, they can cause poisoning and the restaurant cannot control what the customers bring in and its origin.

The restaurant hopes that customers can sympathize and be happy about this regulation, not only at the restaurant but also at other F&B businesses in similar cases.

What do diners and restaurant owners in Ho Chi Minh City say?

After the restaurant shared the above, netizens also expressed different opinions about customers bringing food into the restaurant. Many people completely agreed and supported this way of doing things of the restaurant, but there were also people who did not support it, saying that the restaurant needs to be flexible to meet the needs of customers.

Nickname Choco commented: "I see many families with children demanding to bring fried chicken, pizza and other things. If they don't let them in, go to another restaurant!". "The restaurant is right to handle it like that!", account Minh Tran Le said. "The restaurant should let customers bring food in or charge an additional fee, on the condition that if they bring it in and something happens, the customer is responsible for it," Som Duong stated his opinion.

As a regular customer of many restaurants and eateries in Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Thanh Liem (26 years old) said that most of the restaurants he chose charged an extra fee when customers brought in outside food or allowed customers to bring in freely.

"Once, I brought crabs from my hometown to invite my colleagues to a restaurant in Tan Dinh ward (formerly District 1) and asked the owner to boil them. Of course, they were comfortable doing it for me and charged me an additional fee of 200,000 VND. There was also a restaurant in Ban Co ward (formerly District 3) where I brought fruit and they were comfortable, did not charge an additional fee, and even peeled it for my table. I also had to politely invite the staff to eat fruit and tip them when paying," he shared.

According to Mr. Liem, the fact that the restaurant does not allow customers to bring in outside food will cause them to lose some customers. He also does not feel comfortable going to such strict restaurants.

On the contrary, Ms. Ai Trinh (25 years old), living in Thu Duc ward, said that some coffee shops prohibit customers from bringing in outside food and she fully supports it. According to her, many people bring food with strong odors into the shop space, making other customers feel uncomfortable.

"They open their business and bring in food, which also causes a loss of revenue, not to mention the potential risks if there are food safety issues. I think customers should also sympathize with the restaurant owner," she shared.

The owner of a newly opened snail restaurant in Binh Dong Ward (old District 8) also said that although they don't want to, sometimes they still have to please customers who bring outside food into the restaurant. "They accidentally bring it, buy it, and eat it with the dishes in our restaurant. If we prohibit customers from bringing it in, we will lose customers. If we agree, we will also lose a part of the revenue, not to mention worrying about food hygiene and safety," the restaurant owner shared.
