According to the Lao Cai Department of Education and Training, the reason was that the candidate wrote and filled in the wrong test code on the multiple-choice answer sheet compared to the exam paper that was distributed. This caused the multiple-choice scoring system to mismatch the data and give very low scores.
This year, the whole province had 350 exams reviewed, including 11 exams from the 2006 program and 339 exams from the 2018 program. Of these, only two exams had their scores adjusted: the aforementioned Biology exam and one Literature exam, which increased from 6.75 to 7 points. The remaining 348 exams kept the same results.

According to regulations, after the review, candidates who are eligible to take the exam, have not been disciplined, achieve 1 point or higher in all subjects and have a graduation score of 5 or higher will be recognized as graduating from high school.
In 2025, the whole country will have more than 1.16 million candidates taking the high school graduation exam, of which over 1.12 million are 12th graders. The graduation pass rate is about 99.2%, with only more than 8,800 candidates failing.
For university admission candidates, from August 16 to 20, the Ministry of Education and Training will conduct virtual screening and announce the first round of admission results at 5:00 p.m. on August 20. Successful candidates must confirm their admission before 5:30 p.m. on August 30. Schools will consider additional admission from September 1 to December 2025.
