Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has just made a speech directing the need for an emulation movement to encourage the creation of valuable literary and artistic works about advanced models and "witnesses" of revolutionary history...
In the context where the literature and arts have recently lacked characters of "good people doing good deeds", and lacked characters who are "progressive models" to promote good things in society, the Prime Minister 's directive received the approval of many artists.
Tuoi Tre Online records the concerns and thoughts of two musicians, writers, and leaders of literary and artistic associations about this literary and artistic story.
Associate Professor, Dr. Do Hong Quan: Writing about advanced models is a bright spot in literary and artistic life.
We are very pleased to receive the Prime Minister's opinion on encouraging the creation of valuable literary and artistic works on the subject of new people, namely citizens, farmers, businessmen, intellectuals, and armed forces, whom we have long been accustomed to calling good people and good deeds.

The new era has many good examples, advanced models that need to be honored through new art forms. This is a topic that always gives artists and writers a strong source of inspiration, a bright spot in the artistic life.
The second topic is about historical witnesses of the past revolutionary period, which is also very important even when we have entered a new era. These are examples of silent sacrifices to overcome the war, or people who overcame difficult circumstances, injuries, and Agent Orange consequences to rise up...
They are the soldiers who made the silent achievements of today.
Delving into the lives and thoughts of historical witnesses is also the task of literature and art.
For a long time, although writing about historical themes, most of them were still grand narratives, epic stories, and rarely went into the deep moments of silent people, such as those searching for martyrs' graves, the fate of women after the war...
This is a topic that has a lot of room for literature and art to develop. Because it touches on emotions and has profound humanistic meanings. It can be said that the Prime Minister's speech has given artists and writers new inspiration and new emotions to embark on a new journey in their creative careers.
The creation of literary and artistic works is a product of the individual, based on the thinking, accumulation and personal talent of the artist. To have a good work, in the end, it still depends on the labor, talent, openness in thinking, and depth of thought of the artists themselves.
But besides that, artists also need enthusiasm, a competitive atmosphere, a great emotion resonated by the collective to have the conditions to create great works. Reality shows that timeless works are often born in periods when there is national spirit, inspired by the people.
Therefore, in my opinion, the Prime Minister's policy of encouraging creativity should be developed into a widespread, continuous movement in the Vietnamese literary and artistic community, becoming a competitive movement to be able to create many great works.
The role of launching this movement is the role of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations, central professional associations and provincial and municipal literature and arts associations across the country.
Along with launching the creative movement, there needs to be appropriate investment and long-term strategy from both the state and private resources, so that these new works have the conditions to spread and attract public attention.

Writer Nguyen Binh Phuong: writing about good people is fertilizing the lush field of humanity
Writing about good people and bringing good people back into literature and art is something I have been thinking about and pondering for a long time. Don Quixote is a famous "good person" literary character around the world for many years.
But nowadays, in Vietnamese literature, there are few Don Quixote, which means there are few characters with purely good people. It is as if good people have been pushed out of real life. But that is not the case. Every day we still meet many good people. The more difficult and unfortunate the times are, the more often we meet them.
The recent COVID-19 pandemic has shown society that there are so many good people in our society, good people are everywhere. They have revived our resilient spirit, they have given us the resistance to fight against discouragement, they have given us strength and faith...
In any era, good people play a role in keeping the warmth of human relationships, and they are often humble and silent. In reality, good is still winning over evil in our society. But somehow good people are becoming more and more isolated and absent in literature and art.
What is it that pushes good people out of literary works? Is literature focusing too much on dissecting evil and the wicked, while unintentionally pushing good and good people to the margins?
In a life full of thorns, kindness is the pain reliever for each of us, it keeps us from being overwhelmed by evil.
Therefore, kindness, good people, and ideal characters really need to return in literature and art to encourage and support people.
Literature and art must remember an important role: to be a refuge for kindness. If literature does not stand beside good people, does not fight alongside them, I am afraid that one day humanity will collapse.
It is time for writers to take good people back to literature and art. They must be given the rightful place in literature and art, because they are the backbone of society.
People talk a lot about the courage of writers when they bring their sharp pen into the hidden corners of society.
But the courage of a writer is also shown in other situations. Sometimes it is simply writing about pure goodness, so that those who are about to lose heart before the sharp claws of life have more motivation to continue.
A writer who writes about good people is tending to the fertile fields of humanity. A person who cares for good rice is more admirable than a person who is so busy weeding that the rice starves. Because each good person is a ray of light, many good people form a strip of light. And humanity walks in that light.
I think so myself, but writing is extremely difficult. Somehow, the words still lead to uncertainty. Writing about good people requires courage, that's where it comes from. Courage to persevere with your beliefs, your beliefs in good people.
