Those are the practical concerns of architect Nguyen Truong Luu, chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Literature and Arts Associations, in the exhibition and seminar on Hanoi - Hue - Ho Chi Minh City Literature and Arts: 50 years of proud heroic epic taking place at the headquarters of the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Literature and Arts Associations on the morning of June 27.
According to Deputy Head of the Propaganda Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Tho Truyen, over the past 50 years, the flow of literature and art in the whole country has had contributions from the literature and art of 3 major localities: Hanoi, Hue , and Ho Chi Minh City.
Contributions from 3 major localities
People's Artist Tran Quoc Chiem believes that during the renovation period, Northern literature and art changed in themes and ways of expression to satisfy public needs.
"The change in artistic conception of human beings has changed the face of literature. The works of some writers written after the war such as: Burning Land, In 1975, They Lived Like That; Retired Generals; Land of Many People and Many Ghosts... show that literature is more concerned with human beings" - Master Nguyen Thi Minh Bac added.

Writer Ho Dang Thanh Ngoc said that up to now, the Hue City Union of Literature and Arts Associations has 8 specialized associations: literature, fine arts, music , folk arts, photography, architecture, theater, dance (over 750 members), and has carried out many activities contributing to spreading Hue culture to the public.

Currently, there are about 200 artists of the city who have been awarded titles such as: Ho Chi Minh Prize, State Prize, People's Artist, People's Teacher, Meritorious Artist, and Meritorious Artist.
Embrace the new to shape your identity
Many experts attending the workshop said that literature and art in all three localities have had remarkable developments, but there are also many limitations.
Mr. Nguyen Truong Luu pointed out the fact that after 1975, Ho Chi Minh City only built Hoa Binh Theater, Ben Thanh Theater and recently added the City Children's House: "50 years of building and investing in cultural institutions for the largest and most populous city in the country is not commensurate with the economic development here."
"If we go to a bookstore, we can easily see books about culture, identity, lifestyle... Saigon is very "modest" in quantity compared to other regions.
Finding books about architectural heritage is even more difficult. Some people even say: "Saigon is a young land, so what heritage does it have?", "heritage must be 300-500 years old".
"The cultural identity of the city is always active, searching, open to accepting new things, taking the lead in finding development directions, not following stereotypes," Mr. Luu expressed his concerns about shaping Saigon's cultural identity.
Artist Quoc Chiem believes that in order for the literature and arts of the three major localities to continue to produce quality works, it is necessary to choose the right creative direction; accurately orient public opinion in the context of a globally connected information society; build a system to evaluate the quality of cultural products; develop a healthy online cultural space...

Artists need to continue to unite and work together
Mr. Nguyen Tho Truyen said that in the new period, the team of artists and writers need to continue to "stand side by side" and "unite and join forces" through their works to contribute to building the system of national values, culture, family and standards for Vietnamese people in the new period.
"From July 1, the country will operate a two-level local government model. To operate effectively, it requires the efforts of the entire Party and people, in which the contributions of literature, art, and artists play a particularly important role," he said.
