Caves become art stages to attract tourists

Million-year-old "theater"

In recent years, many unique art programs have been held in natural caves, contributing to opening up new directions for tourism, culture, and experiences. In the heart of Ngoc Rong Cave, Vung Duc (Quang Ninh), the live art tour "Finding the Pearl" brings a unique experience to visitors starting from June 4, 2025. This is not only an art show but also a journey to honor the legend and unique cultural identity of the land of Ha Long - Bai Tu Long. Mr. Nguyen The Ky - Vice Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council, one of the program's advisors - highly appreciated the idea of bringing art and cuisine into the cave, combining the gift of nature with the creative ideas of humans.

Also during the Lunar New Year 2025, conductor Dong Quang Vinh and the New Vitality Symphony Orchestra had a special performance at Ngoc Rong Cave (Quang Ninh). Conductor Dong Quang Vinh said that bringing the symphony orchestra into the cave space was an interesting challenge. “The first time performing a symphony in a cave, we all felt excited and felt the deep connection between music and nature between the majestic rocks and the echoes of sound,” he said.

Previously, Dau Go Cave ( Quang Ninh ) had held a number of special concerts. The first concert at Dau Go Cave was on November 19, 2005. After that, there were a number of more concerts at the Dau Go Cave “theater” in 2014, within the framework of the Asia-Europe New Music Festival. What is special is that those concerts were not supported by any electronic sound equipment or techniques, but only had the pure and natural sounds of musical instruments. Experts and tourists were amazed at a million-year-old “theater” gifted by nature with perfect sound quality.

At Nhi Thanh Cave (Lang Son), there was also a performance of folk songs and cave folk dances. Folk songs imbued with Lang Son's cultural identity were performed by artisans and artists from the Cultural Center and the Provincial Folk Song Preservation Association.

Be careful with the environment and landscape.

Cave art programs in Vietnam are very attractive to domestic and international tourists. Bringing art into caves is not just an experimental initiative but a strong step forward to elevate Vietnam tourism, creating unique and different products.

However, it can be seen that there are art programs in caves that only take place for a short time, "seasonally" or are pilot programs, and there is no systematic planning for this type of art tourism.

Furthermore, many people are concerned about the risk of environmental damage. If not organized properly, the large number of people will affect the humidity and microorganisms in the cave. According to tourism and environmental experts, not all caves can incorporate artistic activities. Some caves have sensitive ecosystems (habitats of bats, rare microorganisms, etc.) and should not be interfered with.

The selection of art programs must be based on geological stability, safe access, ability to control the number of visitors, not affecting the environment, landscape, and not affecting the original value of the area.

The organizers are not allowed to put auxiliary facilities such as kitchens, toilets, and garbage disposal areas inside the cave. The organizers need to have close coordination between the government, the people, and the artists to ensure that the organization brings sustainable benefits. Instead of operating individually and fragmentedly, the organizers need to build themed tourism-art chains...
