Mr. Nguyen Van Huong, Head of Weather Forecasting Department, National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, said that the North is experiencing widespread showers and thunderstorms. The rain will continue from now, June 28, to July 2. We estimate that the total rainfall during this period will be 100-300mm, with some places over 500mm.

According to Mr. Huong, the low pressure trough with an axis passing through the Northern region tends to be more active, at the same time, on the low pressure trough there is a low vortex located in the Northern region, operating at an altitude of 3,000-5,000m, providing great humidity, causing this rain.

Mr. Huong added that although the total rainfall is large, it is not too large over 5 days on average. The total local rainfall can reach 500mm compared to the rains in early June, which is not particularly large.

Regarding the heavy rains this time, Mr. Huong said that they are concentrated in the Northern region. The Northern region has recently experienced widespread and prolonged rains, causing the total rainfall to be higher than the average of many years. A new period of rain is coming, with some areas experiencing heavy rain (100mm in 3 hours). It is necessary to pay attention to the dangerous phenomenon of flash floods and landslides in mountainous and midland areas. In addition, it is necessary to guard against urban flooding in the coming time.

Detailed forecast from the night of June 28 to the night of June 29, the Northern region will have moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms, locally very heavy rain with common rainfall from 40-100mm, locally over 250mm. Warning of the risk of local heavy rain (>100mm/3h).

In the late afternoon and evening of June 28, Thanh Hoa , the Central Highlands and the South will have scattered showers and thunderstorms, locally heavy rain with rainfall of 10-30mm, locally heavy rain over 50mm.

During the day and night of June 30, the North will have moderate to heavy rain, locally very heavy rain and thunderstorms with common rainfall of 40-80mm, locally over 150mm.

Thunderstorms may contain tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong winds.
