Spain's Canary Islands attract a huge number of tourists with their stunning beaches and great food, but there are still some lesser-known "hidden" spots. One of them is Porís de Candelaria on the island of La Palma.
From a distance, the village appears to be hidden in a cave. With difficult roads, no electricity and only the sound of waves, life here seems to be isolated from the modern world .
There is no airport on the west coast of La Palma and no public buses get there. The difficulty of access is the reason most visitors never see it.

Getting there is hot and dusty. Those without a car or a taxi can take a guided hike or a small boat from Puerto de Tazacorte. But the effort is worth it. Once you reach the village inside the cave, the air is cool and pleasant.
Sunlight reflecting on the turquoise water, fishing boats bobbing, and bright white houses all make for a beautiful scene.
There are no souvenir shops, but on summer weekends there is sometimes a kiosk selling cold drinks. Visitors can take photos of the cliffside “street” and watch the sun set straight into the Atlantic.
