(CLO) With the theme "How can literary and artistic works reach the public?", the discussion organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Literature and Arts Associations attracted the participation of many researchers, cultural management agencies and artists.
At the event held in Ho Chi Minh City on November 22, the shared ideas suggested many practical solutions to bring literature and art closer to the public.
Director Thanh Hiep, Head of the Theory and Criticism Department (Ho Chi Minh City Theater Association), opened with comments on the change in the way theatrical works are promoted.

He shared: "Just a few years ago, the stage was only familiar with billboards and posters hanging on the street. Today, social networks and digital platforms have completely changed. Most art units sell tickets online, combined with many customer support services.
Artists also organize livestreams on fanpages, chatting directly with audiences about the roles they are about to play. Many stages have boldly digitized data of their plays, helping the public easily access new works. This is an approach that needs to be replicated."
Emphasizing the role of promotion, Mr. Le Nguyen Hieu (Ho Chi Minh City Dance Artists Association) said: "Art and culture need to be seen as a high-end commodity. And as a commodity, there must be buying and selling. But more importantly, to sell, there must be promotion. No matter how good a work is, if no one knows about it, it has no value. Therefore, I suggest that artists need to coordinate closely with the media to help the works reach the public."
Film critic Nguyen Thi Thuy Nga sets an important standard: quality must be the top priority. She frankly said: "The time has passed when attractiveness means attracting audiences at all costs or cheaply attracting audiences. An attractive film needs serious investment, from the thinking to the high level of skill of the artist."
"When a film reaches the general public, that is the complete journey of the work from creation to enjoyment. Each film needs its own audience, and appeal is the measure of value, as well as the universality of the theme that the work brings," the theorist emphasized.
To develop sustainable arts and culture, Master Doan Phuc Linh Tam proposed to build programs connecting artists with schools. He suggested that exchanges or lectures by artists at schools not only help students approach art in reality but also arouse passion and inspire the younger generation. This is an effective way to create a long-term legacy and development for arts and culture.
Attending the seminar, Dr. Ha Thanh Van (Ho Chi Minh City Writers Association) emphasized the importance of applying digital technology in promoting works.
She analyzed: "Releasing ebooks and audiobooks on platforms such as Kindle, Apple Books, Spotify or Audible helps works reach more readers, overcoming barriers of space and time. In addition, digital media and social networks will be effective tools to promote and build a community of loyal readers for authors and artists. From there, the cultural and spiritual values that the work brings will be widely spread."
The seminar not only suggests creative solutions, but also creates opportunities for artists, managers and researchers to find new directions to connect culture and art with modern life, opening the door to bring art closer to all classes of the public.
