Every time the story of nurturing is told, people at the foot of Pha Din Pass also send their wishes for prosperity and a future of a coffee growing region with the Pha Din-Tuan Giao brand...
Propaganda to regain... "faith"!
On the way, we visited the lush green coffee fields of the people in the communes of Quai To, Phinh Sang, Pu Xi, Na Say... Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Nga, Director of the Agricultural Service Center of Tuan Giao district, said that the coffee fields that the delegation had just passed through were all planted in 2024. In detail, it would take nearly twenty days for the coffee trees to enter the second year of being planted on new land, but each tree had a strong trunk, thick leaves, and was already as tall as a 4-year-old tree elsewhere.
That has brought double joy to farmers and each cadre and civil servant in Tuan Giao when there is a practical basis to confirm the suitability of the trees to the climate and soil; at the same time, affirming the effective implementation of the program.
Recalling the beginning of 2023 when the Resolution of Tuan Giao District Party Committee on focusing on expanding the area of coffee trees was implemented, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Nga admitted that there were many difficulties. But the most difficult thing was that people's trust had gradually "drifted" away with the projects linking mango, grapefruit and coffee planting in Quai Nua, Quai Cang and Quai To communes because the implementation was not thorough, and did not bind the responsibilities of the seed suppliers and implementers. And finally, the many disappointments that remained made farmers indifferent and lose faith every time they heard about the "program" or "project".

Step by step to overcome difficulties and dispel people's doubts, under the direction of the District People's Committee, at the end of 2023, 11 communication teams consisting of 100 members, including members of the Standing Committee of the District Party Committee, core cadres of departments, branches, and sectors of the district and communes, simultaneously organized 120 propaganda sessions on coffee planting and care techniques at 86 locations to 12,000 households in 18 communes.
To make it easier for people to understand, remember and implement, the propaganda and technical instructions were made into videos and translated into the H'Mong and Thai languages. At the propaganda sessions, the leaders of the District Party Committee, the Chairman and Vice Chairmen of the District People's Committee personally answered questions and clarified doubts that had been lingering in the hearts of the people for a long time so that they could feel secure and confident.
Along with that is the direct and dedicated support of more than 1,000 teachers who did not mind the long distance or the dark night through the forest to visit each family to guide people on how to dig holes and take care of trees.
Mr. Do Van Son, Head of the Tuan GiaoEducation and Training Department, said: In addition to the specific responsibilities assigned by the district, the department has assigned each teacher to directly guide at least 2 families from digging holes, mixing fertilizer, planting trees and throughout the care process. With the advantage of teachers being knowledgeable about the area, customs and the language of the people, the families that the teachers are in charge of are all proficient in the implementation process.

With the simultaneous and drastic participation of the entire political system, in 2024, Tuan Giao completed the planting of more than 1,000 hectares of new coffee trees in remote areas. It is worth mentioning that out of more than 1,000 hectares of newly planted coffee, only 123 hectares were supported with funding from the national target program, the rest were invested by the people themselves to buy seedlings for planting.
At the end of the new planting season in 2024, thousands of households also sent to the district the hope of "being supported to plant more coffee trees next year" because people understood the economic value and long-term benefits of coffee trees, which are different from traditional trees in Tuan Giao for a long time.

Tuan Giao district focuses resources on developing coffee trees
Where is the capital...?
However, the consensus and desire to continue to receive support for coffee seedlings has "pushed" the leaders of Tuan Giao district... to a new problem. Every night, the question: "Where is the source to support coffee growers when the target program is entirely dedicated to macadamia trees?" keeps coming back, causing many comrades to worry and "lose sleep".
In meetings, in every story after work and even in the "after-work tea and wine" meals... of the officials and people of Tuan Giao, the question always revolves around: Where is the source to plant thousands of more hectares of coffee?; Where is the source to have 5,000 hectares of coffee by 2030 according to the plan?; Or is it possible that the coffee planting movement is just a movement for fun...?
Many people have asked themselves "where is the capital?". Later, in a meeting of the Standing Committee of the District Party Committee, there was a bold proposal to use the 500 million VND fund supported by TH Group to buy coffee seeds to grow plants. Along with this source, the district must simultaneously mobilize businesses and individuals in the area to support funding and facilities for growing plants, making seeds... If successful, it will open up a way of working for the district, creating new jobs for farmers who love plants and the land. But what if it fails? Whose responsibility is it?
"That meeting - around October 2024 - was hotter than all the meetings because the idea of "buying seeds to grow plants" was both new and bold. However, because of the determination and trust in the cadres and people, the Standing Committee of the District Party Committee agreed to use all the support funds to buy seeds for people to incubate and grow plants" - Comrade Le Xuan Canh, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment (former Secretary of the Tuan Giao District Party Committee) clearly remembered the content of that meeting.
Assigned the task of contacting and purchasing seeds to each village to deliver to cooperatives, household groups and families according to registered areas, throughout December 2024, the officers and technicians of Tuan Giao Agricultural Service Center were busy instructing people on how to soak and incubate seeds and how to sift sand, mix soil and close pots.
Following the Center’s instructions, all the seeds (more than 3.3 tons) were soaked and incubated by members of 157 cooperatives and thousands of families at the same time, and then the people carefully selected each seedling to plant in the mound and bring it to the nursery. Although at first, their calloused hands were still clumsy when selecting seeds and planting the seedlings, following the meticulous and dedicated instructions of the technical staff, gradually the farmers of Tuan Giao learned to cherish each seedling very gently.
When faith returns...
Taking us to visit his family's coffee nursery, Mr. Vu A Sung (De Chia A village, Pu Nhung commune) spread out his calloused hands and said: "In the past, I followed my parents to the forest to cut trees with a knife since I was 7 years old. Only now do these hands know how to sow seeds and grow trees. Through the months of cherishing and caring for each seed so that it can sprout, I have come to understand and appreciate each seedling more. From now on, I will teach my children and grandchildren how to sow seeds into trees to help the H'Mong people take the initiative in planting seedlings instead of having to order or wait for seeds from programs."

Sharing the same plan as Mr. Vu A Sung and thousands of families of H'Mong and Thai ethnic groups in communes in the district, Mr. Luong Van Thong in Pha Nang village, Quai Nua commune also wishes to expand the coffee seedling nursery for Pha Nang villagers, and later, when conditions are better, he will turn it into a coffee seedling nursery and many other seedlings to provide for people in the commune and district.

Directly visiting the seedling nurseries in the communes of Quai Nua, Quai To, Toa Tinh..., comrade Le Thanh Do, Chairman of the People's Committee of Dien Bien province, was extremely happy to see with his own eyes millions of seedlings successfully planted by the people.
Praising the creative approach and dedicated participation of the staff and civil servants in Tuan Giao, comrade Le Thanh Do affirmed: With the successful sowing and nurturing of millions of seedlings enough to plant 3,000 hectares of new coffee in 2025, Tuan Giao has benefited the State and farmers with hundreds of billions of dong.
Not only that, through practical methods, it has helped people gradually change their awareness and habits. Instead of the mindset of "waiting" for seedlings, from now on, Tuan Giao people will proactively incubate seeds and plant trees. That is not only important for each person but also extremely meaningful in the journey to make Tuan Giao the capital of industrial crops, so that Tuan Giao people can rise up and get rich...
