For Mr. Nguyen Van Son in Sam Son ward, owner of ship TH-92491, after nearly 3 years of receiving financial support from the State to install voyage monitoring equipment (GSHT) and subscribe to internet service to connect to GSHT, each fishing trip has become safer and more effective. Mr. Son said: “Ocean fishing is often affected by the weather. Therefore, after being supported with the equipment, we have an additional channel to receive reliable information, can update information about the weather at sea as well as ask for instructions to move to a safe area. In addition, through the GSHT equipment, fishermen know the location and sea area where they are fishing, minimizing violations of regulations in fishing. From there, the fishing trip is safer and more economically efficient.”
Also appreciating the effectiveness of the GSHT installation support, fisherman Nguyen Van Chung - ship owner and captain of ship TH-93369-TS in Van Loc commune, said: "The GSHT device is really useful. In particular, the most effective is still through the GSHT device, the authorities will remind and support when the ship is at risk of violating foreign waters, or if there is an accident, storm and need help, the device will help the rescue force determine the location of the fishing boat quickly and accurately, thereby making the fishing boat and fishermen safer".
It is known that on March 23, 2025, while operating in the offshore area near the coast of Hau Loc district (old), on the TH-93369-TS ship of Mr. Nguyen Van Chung, a worker had an accident. Through the signal system and GSHT device, the ship connected with the patrol boat of the fisheries control force and requested support to bring the crew member in distress at sea to shore for emergency treatment. Thanks to that, the worker received timely medical support, without seriously affecting his health. Then, on many other fishing trips affected by storms, it was also the GSHT device that helped Mr. Chung and his "shipmates" return safely to the mainland.
Thanh Hoa fishermen have a tradition and experience in offshore fishing. Their fishing boats operate throughout the country's fishing grounds. Therefore, with 6,591 fishing boats, including 1,061 boats with a length of 15m or more, the province not only supports GPS equipment and subscriptions to connect GPS equipment according to Resolution No. 21/2021/NQ-HDND of the Provincial People's Council on mechanisms and policies to support the purchase of GPS equipment and subscription fees for GPS equipment services for owners of fishing boats with a length of 15m or more in Thanh Hoa province, but also flexibly applies policies to encourage and support fishermen in exploiting, cultivating seafood and providing seafood exploitation services in offshore areas according to Decision No. 48/2010/QD-TTg dated July 13, 2010 of the Prime Minister. Thanks to that, many fishermen have boldly invested in building new and upgrading fishing boats to participate in seafood exploitation in far-off seas.
According to statistics from the Department of Agriculture and Environment, in the period of 2020-2025, Thanh Hoa province has implemented a number of policies to support fisheries development and ensure safety for fishermen such as: supporting GSHT equipment, GSHT service subscriptions, supporting fishermen and boats at risk due to natural disasters... with a support amount of more than 17.1 billion VND. Through the support source, not only does it stabilize the production situation of fishermen, but it also helps fishermen feel secure going offshore, sticking to the sea for production, creating strong motivation, mobilizing social resources to participate in fisheries development. At the same time, raising awareness of strict compliance with regulations on combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing to contribute to the whole country in removing the "yellow card" warning, gradually developing the fisheries sector in a sustainable and integrated direction.
