According to Thai press, the "war elephants" have very little time to prepare for the tournament as the players only have 4 or 5 days to practice together before the match. However, U23 Thailand is still very confident that they will overcome Vietnam, Indonesia and Malaysia to re-establish their dominance in Southeast Asia.
Speaking to Naewna newspaper, coach Thawatchai said: "This is my first time coaching a national team, but I have little time to prepare. However, I have discussed with the whole team and asked for player information from colleagues at the clubs. This is a very good cooperation in terms of information. Now we are 100% ready to enter the tournament."
Thailand U23's goal is to win the championship and their main opponents are Indonesia, Vietnam, and Malaysia. Mr. Thawatchai stated: "Indonesia, Vietnam, and Malaysia are teams that are very close to us. If we pass the group stage and have information about our opponents, I believe we will win. I came to Thailand U23 with the goal of winning the 2025 Southeast Asian Championship."
The 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship will take place from July 15 to 29, with Thailand in Group C with Myanmar and Timor-Leste. This is considered the "easiest" group among the three. Therefore, the ticket to the next round is considered to belong to U23 Thailand.
Meanwhile, Thailand's star striker Mix Yotsakorn Burapa expressed his desire to meet Vietnam in the final round. Yotsakorn Burapa said: "I want to meet Vietnam in the final to avenge the recent loss at the ASEAN Cup 2024. This tournament is also an opportunity for the teams to test each other's skills, before meeting again at the SEA Games arena."
