Before this training session, most of the Vietnamese U20 women's players had just competed together at the 2025 Southeast Asian U19 Women's Championship held in Ho Chi Minh City. Although they could not win the championship, the team still left many positive impressions, showing progress and development potential.
In the training camp to prepare for the 2026 Asian U20 Women's Qualifiers, head coach Okiyama Masahiko has called up 29 athletes, including 3 new faces. The Japanese strategist and his assistants will continue to review and analyze the remaining limitations from the recent U19 tournament to adjust tactics and improve the quality of the squad.
The first training session took place on the afternoon of July 1 in cool weather conditions in Hanoi , creating favorable conditions for the whole team to restart training intensity. According to information from the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), the coaching staff also conducted physical tests on each player to ensure the best physical foundation for the upcoming important training period.
According to the plan, from July 11 to July 21, the Vietnam U20 women's team will go to Japan for training and friendly matches with local youth teams. This is an opportunity for the players to accumulate more skills and international experience, while helping the coaching staff perfect their tactical plans before entering the official tournament.
In the qualifying round of the 2026 AFC U20 Women's Championship, Group B, the Vietnam U20 Women's Team will host three opponents: Kyrgyzstan, Hong Kong (China) and Singapore. The matches will take place from August 6 to 10 at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center.
With home field advantage and careful preparation, coach Okiyama Masahiko and his team are aiming to win first place in the group to get a ticket to the final round.
