Brazil allows social platform X to operate again after billionaire Elon Musk pays fine.

Federal judge Alexandre de Moraes, who is handling the case involving billionaire Elon Musk's X platform, has ordered the National Telecommunications Authority to unblock the X service in Brazil, after it was suspended on August 31, affecting more than 22 million users.

In a statement released the same day, Judge Moraes affirmed that the lifting of the ban is conditional on the X platform fully complying with Brazilian law and "absolutely complying" with Supreme Court decisions on removing accounts accused by authorities of spreading false information as well as appointing legal representatives, a mandatory condition for operating in Brazil.

Billionaire Elon Musk had previously ignored Judge Moraes' ultimatum for weeks, refusing to block accounts accused of spreading hate speech and fake news. However, in late September, the SpaceX boss accepted the conditions set by Brazilian authorities after Starlink - the billionaire's satellite internet company - encountered many difficulties in operating in the South American country.

Speaking before the United Nations General Assembly recently, President Lula da Silva also sided with Judge Moraes, declaring that no individual, company or digital platform is above the law, and called on Mr. Musk to comply with the court's ruling if he wants to continue operating in Brazil.

With an average of more than one smartphone per capita, Brazil is one of the most connected countries in the world .

After X was suspended, many Brazilian netizens started switching to other social platforms such as Threads or Bluesky.

In late September, Brazilian Supreme Court Judge Alexandre de Moraes decided that billionaire Elon Musk would have to pay a fine of 10.3 million reais ($1.9 million/VND50 billion) to restore the social network X in the country. The penalty was issued because the social network X continued to allow users despite the ban on August 30, which also banned the provision of the X network via Starlink satellite internet.

Previously, X's legal representative in Brazil, Rachel de Oliveira Villa Nova Conceicao, paid 300,000 reais to Musk's company.

Earlier in September, Brazilian authorities withdrew 18.35 million reais from the local bank accounts of social network X and Starlink to pay fines issued by the Supreme Court.
