On May 25, the People's Court of Da Nang City held a first-instance trial of Bui Tuan Lam (also known as Peter Lam Bui, 38 years old, residing in Thanh Binh ward, Hai Chau district, Da Nang) for the crime of "Making, storing, disseminating, propagating information, documents, and items aimed at opposing the Socialist Republic of Vietnam" under Points a and b, Clause 1, Article 117 of the Penal Code.
According to the indictment, from April 20, 2019 to September 7, 2022, Bui Tuan Lam composed and posted 19 articles on his personal Facebook account "Peter Lam Bui" and 25 videos and articles on his Youtube account (created, managed, and used by Lam) with content that was untrue, fabricated, distorted, defamed, and slandered the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

On September 7, the Da Nang City Police Department's Security Investigation Agency issued a decision to prosecute the case, prosecute the accused, and temporarily detain Lam.
The trial on May 25 took place in accordance with legal procedures, Bui Tuan Lam admitted to the violations.
Based on the documents in the case file and the results of the questioning and debate at the trial, the panel sentenced Lam to 5 years and 6 months in prison for the crime of "Making, storing, disseminating, and propagating information, documents, and items aimed at opposing the Socialist Republic of Vietnam" and to 4 years of probation from the date of completion of the prison sentence.
