Coach Hansi Flick’s future has long been uncertain due to the poor results of the German national team. Many sources believe that the DBF will give this strategist a chance to “save his seat” at the end of the FIFA Days in September, after the friendly matches with Japan and France.
Hansi Flick plunges Germany into crisis
However, DBF decided to fire coach Hansi Flick right after the match with Japan. This is what fans could have predicted when the German team was defeated 1-4 by the opponent from Asia with a weak and disunified playing style. After the match, coach Hansi Flick and the players went straight to the tunnel. Only Thomas Muller stayed to greet the German fans. This was considered the last straw that made DBF unable to be patient anymore.
Along with Hansi Flick, two assistants Marcus Sorg and Danny Rohl were also fired immediately by the German team. Notably, Flick and his coaching staff still directed the German players to practice this morning (local time) before receiving the dismissal notice.
Hansi Flick was appointed Germany coach by the DBF on a three-year contract in the summer of 2021. At that time, he was considered the perfect "captain" to revive the German team after a terrible final period under Joachim Low.
Hansi Flick took on the job with a stellar resume, including a sextuple with Bayern Munich in 2020. He started like a dream, with Germany going undefeated in 13 consecutive matches (9 wins, 4 draws). This streak ended in September 2022 after a home defeat to Hungary.
At the 2022 World Cup, Hansi Flick caused great disappointment when the German team lost to Japan and was eliminated from the group stage. After being assured of his future by the DBF, Hansi Flick continued to fail miserably. The loss to Japan marked a streak of 5 consecutive matches without a win for the German team, including 4 defeats.
