Tran Dinh Vu's parents separated when he was still young in Ward 7. He lived with his mentally ill father, and it wasn't until he was in third grade that his grandparents took him and his father back to take care of him. Now Vu is in seventh grade, studying at Gio Linh Town Middle School. Over the years, he has lived in difficult and poor circumstances as his grandparents are old and weak, and his father has a mental illness and is unable to work.

Vu's parents had three children but soon separated, so the three siblings lived in different places. Vu and his second sister were taken in by their grandparents to be educated. The older sister is currently studying in Hue . Understanding the family's situation, she both studies and works to pay for her own education. Now that her grandparents are old and weak, Vu's path to education is becoming more and more difficult.

Mrs. Nguyen Thi Loan - Vu's grandmother - sadly shared: "The family now has no main laborer, all living expenses depend entirely on the monthly subsidy of 500,000 VND from the State for his grandfather. My husband and I are old, our health is getting worse, I also have heart disease and have to go to the hospital regularly, the cost of medicine is very expensive. Vu's father has a mental illness and is unable to work."

Because of his family's financial difficulties and lack of parental attention, Vu's learning progress was slower than that of his peers. Compared to his age, Vu started school 2 years late. However, he always attended school diligently and participated in all school activities.

“Knowing his situation, the school has created the best conditions, completely exempting tuition fees as well as other fees. At the beginning of the school year, the school called for support from kind-hearted people to have funds to buy clothes and books so that Vu can go to class,” said Vu’s homeroom teacher.

Difficulties piled on difficulties, but because of their love for their children and grandchildren, Mrs. Loan and her husband still tried to carry on every day, just hoping to have three meals a day. "Because of his illness, sometimes his father did not recognize his child, and even beat him. We are both old and sick, so we are worried that if something happens, he will not know who to rely on," Mrs. Loan could not hide her worries...
