Proud to be named in the international and regional intellectual arena

In just the past month, the Department of Education and Training of Quang Ninh province has continuously received good news with medals won by students in international and regional intellectual competitions. The students are: Trinh Viet Hoang, 12th grade Chemistry major, Ha Long High School for the Gifted, Silver Medal, Abu Rayhan-Biruni International Chemistry Olympiad (ARBIChO) 2025; Ninh Quang Thang, 12th grade Information Technology major, Ha Long High School for the Gifted, Bronze Medal, Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad (APIO) 2025.

Born and raised in Mao Khe ward (Dong Trieu city), Ninh Quang Thang was intelligent, agile, and active since childhood. When he was in junior high school, Thang boldly participated in the Young Informatics Competition organized by the Provincial Youth Union and won first prize. In this competition, he only took 1.5 hours to complete 4 tests, while the test time was 2.5 hours. Mr. Ha Dai Ton, Thang's homeroom teacher, said: Through the provincial-level Young Informatics Competition, I discovered Thang's qualities and potential in Math - IT. I have been tutoring him online since grade 9. In high school, Thang was much more outstanding than his classmates. He won second prize in the National High School Excellent Student Competition for the 2024-2025 school year.

With great effort and perseverance, surpassing 868 candidates from 42 delegations from countries and territories, at the 2025 Asia- Pacific Informatics Olympiad (APIO) (May 17-18, 2025) hosted by Uzbekistan, Ninh Quang Thang excellently won the Bronze Medal. Currently, he is continuing to participate in training to compete in the International Informatics Olympiad in Bolivia, which will be held from July 27 to August 3, a highly competitive exam with highly difficult exam questions, requiring the ability to apply knowledge flexibly and great creativity of the candidates.

Ninh Quang Thang modestly said: I never thought I would go this far. From a provincial competition, then a national competition, now an international competition, I have received great encouragement and support from teachers and family. I am very grateful for the province's attention with a very high reward policy that has given me a lot of motivation to study with peace of mind. I will try my best and continue to strive for the upcoming International Olympiad in Informatics in Bolivia.

Along with Thang, Trinh Viet Hoang, a 12th grader from Ha Long High School for the Gifted, also won a Silver Medal at the Abu Rayhan-Biruni International Chemistry Olympiad, which took place from May 28 to June 4. Previously, Hoang also won second prize in the National Chemistry Olympiad. Hoang shared: I feel very proud to have brought the Vietnamese flag to shine in the international intellectual arena. This is just the beginning, I will continue to try and practice to achieve higher goals.

In recent years, the province has had many students achieve high results in international and regional intellectual competitions. Such as: Nguyen Ngoc Minh Hai, Bronze Medal at the 2016 International Biology Olympiad; Ngo Minh Long, First Prize at the 2021 International French Olympiad; Vu Huy Hoang, Silver Medal at the 2022 Asia- Pacific Informatics Olympiad; Le Thuy Mai Anh, Bronze Medal at the 2022 European Physics Olympiad...

In particular, in the past 2 years, the quality of the province's spearhead and masseducation has continuously made its mark. In the average high school graduation exam score in 2024, Quang Ninh ranked 25th out of 63 provinces and cities nationwide, up 25 places compared to 2020 - the first year of implementing the Resolution of the 15th Provincial Party Congress. In the national high school excellent student selection exam for the 2024-2025 school year, Quang Ninh province won 88 prizes, ranking 8th out of 10 provinces in terms of the number of students winning prizes.

This result is thanks to the special attention and close direction of the province in the field of education and training. Every year, the budget for education and training always accounts for about 20% of the total provincial budget expenditure, of which regular expenditure for education accounts for about 30-35% of the total regular expenditure of the province. The province has also prioritized resources from the budget to invest in upgrading the infrastructure of the system of education and training facilities in the direction of meeting standards, synchronization, and modernity, helping students enjoy the best educational environment.

The outstanding achievements of students in the province in recent times continue to affirm the position of Quang Ninh education in the peak intellectual arena, and at the same time affirm the right direction in the work of discovering, selecting and nurturing excellent students of the Department of Education and Training, of Ha Long High School for the Gifted.
