In May, Quang Ninh CDC coordinated with Ha Long City Medical Center to organize communication sessions to provide nutritional care advice for the first 1,000 days of life for children. The goal of the communication sessions is to improve knowledge and practical skills on proper nutritional care for pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers and caregivers of children from 0 to 24 months old. The communication content is implemented in a comprehensive and practical manner, such as: The importance of nutrition in the first 1,000 days of life - the golden period that determines the physical and intellectual development of children; health care for pregnant mothers...
The communication session also emphasized the importance of breastfeeding, affirming the irreplaceable role of breast milk in the health and development of children, and guiding mothers on how to breastfeed properly and solve common difficulties. In addition, doctors also provided knowledge on the importance of complementary feeding, instructions on how and when to start complementary feeding appropriately for children.
Dr. Nguyen Thi Trang (Department of Reproductive Health, CDC Quang Ninh) said: Micronutrients are very important for young children, especially in the early stages of life, children need to be properly supplemented with micronutrients. Micronutrients include vitamins and minerals that play an important role in maintaining the health and comprehensive development of children. These are necessary components to build and develop muscles, bones, digestive system, nervous system, immune system for children, helping to provide energy for daily activities. In addition, children of this age need to take vitamin A and deworming medicine periodically every year. Pregnant women also need iron supplements, postpartum mothers, and breastfeeding mothers need to supplement reasonable and balanced nutrients so that children can develop comprehensively.
Recently, the provincial health sector has implemented a vitamin A supplementation campaign. for children aged 6 to 35 months with an annual coverage rate of over 97%. Maintaining reserves and timely distribution of vitamin A at the Provincial General Hospital and Bai Chay Hospital not only helps prevent blindness, but also enhances children's resistance.
The plan "Nutrition care for the first 1,000 days of life" is implemented according to the professional guidance of the Institute of Nutrition ( Ministry of Health ). The system of commune and ward health stations has flexibly integrated activities to guide and communicate about proper nutrition for pregnant women and young children, especially during the "Nutrition and Development Week" and "Micronutrient Day". At the same time, the work of monitoring and tracking growth for all children under 5 years old is organized twice a year, helping to detect early malnutrition, underweight, stunting, for timely intervention.
In May, the Provincial Women's Union also coordinated to organize the contest "Knowledge about mothers and children's health" in turn in localities throughout the province, attracting thousands of contestants to participate. Through the forms of situation handling contests, multiple choice questions, dramatization... the contests took place excitingly and attractively, helping to effectively convey a lot of useful knowledge about balanced and reasonable nutrition for pregnant and lactating women; daily menus ensuring energy and nutrients for children from 0 to 5 years old... These are all important issues, directly affecting the comprehensive development of children.
With many solutions implemented, the health sector and mass organizations have contributed to improving nutrition, reducing the annual rate of malnutrition and stunting in children in the province, thereby ensuring health and resistance for children to develop well both physically and mentally.
