An Giang was chosen as the venue for the workshop because An Giang is one of the leading provinces in the region in attracting tourists, with about 9 million visitors in 2024, with prominent destinations such as Chau Doc, Tra Su Melaleuca Forest, Cu Lao Gieng... In particular, after the merger of An Giang and Kien Giang, An Giang province has a favorable geographical location for the construction of inter-provincial transport projects and will become one of the provinces with the largest and most diverse tourism potential in the Mekong Delta. Therefore, An Giang is an ideal location to form sustainable tourism models that can be replicated in the region and become the nucleus to promote inter-regional tourism development...

The workshop focused on discussing the following issues: The role and factors affecting sustainable tourism development in the delta; characteristics, potential and advantages of the Mekong Delta in sustainable tourism development; experiences from domestic and foreign sustainable tourism models and lessons learned for the Mekong Delta...

In his welcoming speech, Vice Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee Le Van Phuoc emphasized: “The workshop is one of the activities of profound significance towards the Party Congresses at all levels and the 14th National Party Congress; effectively implementing the Mekong Delta Regional Planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, including the Master Plan for tourism development in the Mekong Delta region to 2020, with a vision to 2030. The workshop contributes to clarifying the theoretical basis for sustainable tourism development; clarifying the policies and guidelines of the Party and the State on tourism development. At the same time, this is also a very important scientific forum, where the intelligence, enthusiasm and practical experience of scientists, managers and businesses are gathered, together exchanging good practices and valuable experiences of provinces and cities in the region, thereby contributing to the problem of sustainable tourism development in the region”…
