The implementation of the model has promptly helped children and their families facing many difficulties due to the COVID-19 epidemic.
COVID-19 has receded, but the consequences of the pandemic are still present. Behind the casualties are many small lives suffering from the pain of losing their loved ones. In order to ease the pain, the City Police force (CATP) has proactively implemented many social security models, notably the model "Love for Children - Post-COVID" and the "Godmother" program. Thereby, not only providing practical support to children in special circumstances but also contributing to spreading the beautiful image of a police officer with a compassionate heart, always serving the people.
As early as October 2021, when the COVID-19 pandemic left many sad consequences, the City Police Department issued Plan No. 344/KH-CATP-PX03 to implement the model "Love for Children - Post-COVID", with the goal of receiving and caring for orphans affected by the pandemic. At the same time, the City Police Department directed the Women's Committee to develop a plan to implement the "Godmother" Program, closely following the direction of the Vietnam Women's Union, to connect the care and sponsorship of women's union members for orphans in the city.
Since its inception, the model has supported children and their families not only with material things, but also with affection and sharing from the community.
After 3 years of implementation (2021-2024), the model "Love for Children - Post-COVID" and the "Godmother" program have brought many practical results. The entire force has sponsored 63 orphans and children in difficult circumstances in the city until they are 18 years old, with a minimum support level of 3 million VND/child/year. As of the end of 2024, mass organizations in the City Police Department are maintaining the sponsorship of 54 children, most of whom are orphans due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Thanks to the efforts and dedication of the entire force, the resource mobilization work has achieved impressive results. More than 2.6 billion VND has been mobilized to support the children. In addition to the general support, the City Police force has coordinated with benefactors to support additional cash for 8 children in especially difficult circumstances, with a total amount of more than 545 million VND. In addition, the program has built 4 Dream Houses; supported 1 livelihood to help young families have better conditions to take care of the children; presented 298 scholarships, 62 bicycles, 10 laptops, 20 smartphones and many other practical gifts such as clothes, school supplies, and necessities.
Can Tho City Police held a groundbreaking ceremony and handed over the Dream House to orphans due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the area.
Not only stopping at financial support, but also activities to care for and accompany the children are organized regularly, diversely, and rich in humanity. Units maintain close contact with relatives and caregivers of the children, provide life skills advice, health care; issue citizen identification cards; propagate laws; organize traditional activities. At the same time, the children also participate in many programs, such as "Connecting loving arms", "Spring of love - Celebrating Tet with me", "Moon of love", "Recognizing orphans with outstanding achievements" ... Thereby, helping the children to be more confident and optimistic in life.
The above results not only help children overcome difficulties and gradually improve their lives, but also spread good values in the community. In particular, the model "Love for Children - Post-COVID" was recognized by the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of the Ministry of Public Security as a typical youth project for the 2017-2022 term; The "Godmother" program was awarded a certificate of typical project/work by the Vietnam Women's Union to welcome the 13th National Women's Congress. The image of female officers and members of the City Police Department also left a deep impression when they represented the live television program "Godmother - Love and Sharing" organized by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union in Binh Duong and were invited to be speakers at the program "Take Off" with the theme "Seeds of Hope" organized by Vietnam Television in Hanoi.
Can Tho City Police organized for children to participate in activities to return to their roots and visit the Can Tho City Police Traditional House in Le Binh Ward, Cai Rang District.
In the next phase, the City Police Department will continue to synchronously deploy key solutions to maintain and improve the effectiveness of the model. In particular, it will focus on providing guidance, vocational training support and creating suitable jobs for children who have dropped out of school or have grown up, helping them to have conditions to stabilize their lives and confidently step into life. In addition, the force will promote propaganda andeducation on traditions; support life skills, psychological counseling, and health care for orphans; expand the mobilization of social resources to improve the effectiveness of care and nurturing; organize preliminary and final summaries, and commend outstanding collectives and individuals to replicate typical examples.
The practical and humane actions in the model "Love for Children - Post-COVID" and the "Godmother" Program have been contributing to lighting up the faith and giving strength to children in special circumstances. At the same time, spreading the beautiful image of the City Police force soldiers who are always steadfast on the front line to protect a peaceful life and are full of compassion and sharing with the community. That is also the way the City Police force constantly cultivates a close relationship with the people, contributing to consolidating the solid foundation of the people's security posture in the new situation.
