On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2025) and Vietnam's National Day (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025), in recent days, Cambodian press and media agencies have published many articles highlighting the good neighborly friendship with Vietnam, praising the respectful feelings of always helping and supporting each other and the aspiration for peaceful coexistence of the people of the two countries throughout historical periods.
According to a VNA reporter in Phnom Penh, in an article published on August 19, the Kampuchea Thmey Daily quoted Vietnamese Ambassador to the Kingdom of Cambodia Nguyen Minh Vu as affirming that Cambodia and Vietnam are not only neighboring countries but also good brothers at all times, both in wartime and peacetime.
That was the message emphasized by the Vietnamese diplomat at a special talk show on Vietnam's 80-year development journey after the August Revolution and Vietnam-Cambodia relations, which took place on August 18 at the Vietnamese Embassy in the capital Phnom Penh.
Speaking to a large number of local intellectuals, businessmen and former Cambodian students studying in Vietnam, Ambassador Nguyen Minh Vu said that important historical milestones in each country have certain impacts on both sides, as well as on the bilateral relationship between Vietnam and Cambodia.
The two countries are not only close neighbors with long-standing ties, but also two peoples who have always been united, shared and supported each other in times of difficulty and adversity, together overcoming many ups and downs of history.
According to Ambassador Nguyen Minh Vu, the August Revolution was a strong example and source of encouragement, creating great momentum for the national liberation movements of colonial countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America to rise up and gain independence, especially in Cambodia and Laos, two neighboring countries on the Indochina peninsula.

Quoting President Ho Chi Minh , the Ambassador affirmed that the August Revolution had a direct and enormous impact on the two friendly nations of Cambodia and Laos. The August Revolution succeeded, and the people of Cambodia and Laos rose up together to fight against imperialism and seek independence.
According to local Cambodian media, the two countries have a long and complicated history, but the undeniable historical truth is that the two countries have supported and helped each other to liberate their countries and bring peace to their people.
Cambodia supported Vietnam in reunifying the North and South on April 30, 1975, while Vietnam supported the liberation of Cambodia from the Khmer Rouge regime.
From that perspective, the Kampuchea Thmey Daily newspaper commented: “Vietnamese volunteer soldiers fought side by side with the revolutionary armed forces and Cambodian people to liberate the country from the Khmer Rouge regime on January 7, 1979. It was a victory of great historical significance, bringing Cambodia out of the genocidal regime, reviving it and bringing the country into an era of independence, freedom and peace.”
Cambodian media also quoted Ambassador Nguyen Minh Vu as saying that today, Vietnam and Cambodia have peace and independence. The relationship between the two countries has entered a phase of comprehensive, mutually beneficial cooperation, increasingly deepening and becoming more effective.
With that orientation, the relationship between the two countries has been constantly strengthened and developed in all fields, bringing practical benefits to the people of the two countries, actively contributing to peace, stability and cooperation in the region as well as in the world.
In a news report on the same topic released on August 19, the Khmer Times quoted Ambassador Nguyen Minh Vu reaffirming the strong friendship and shared history between Vietnam and Cambodia, while emphasizing the importance of further strengthening bilateral cooperation.
Looking back at history, each milestone in each country's journey has contributed to shaping bilateral relations and this legacy needs to be promoted in the future.
Also according to Khmer Times, at the discussion, journalist Khieu Kola, senior editor of CNC Television, emphasized the important role of Vietnam in the existence and recovery of Cambodia.
"If Vietnamese volunteers had not helped Cambodia fight and liberate the country from the Khmer Rouge regime, I would not be sitting here today," he said.
Meanwhile, political and geopolitical analyst Thong Mengdavid highlighted the ever-increasing economic ties between the two countries. Bilateral trade exceeded $10 billion last year, thanks to cooperation in agriculture, energy, telecommunications and manufacturing.

Previously, in a news release on August 18, the Cambodian National News Agency (AKP) reported that Cambodia and Vietnam had both experienced decades of colonial rule. Therefore, the struggle against colonialism was not only a political movement but also a struggle to preserve national identity, customs and traditions and ensure the right to self-determination for one’s own future.
AKP quoted Ambassador Nguyen Minh Vu as emphasizing that Vietnam's August Revolution in 1945 demonstrated the determination and solidarity of the Vietnamese people in the struggle against imperialist domination.
This message resonated and inspired the Cambodian people, who saw Vietnam's struggle as a mirror reflecting their aspirations.
According to the Cambodia News Agency, the goal of ending foreign domination, restoring national sovereignty and building an independent state has become the common mission of the people of the two countries.
In that spirit, Cambodian and Vietnamese patriots always exchange ideas and the spirit of solidarity in the fight against colonialism has become a common mission of the two countries./.
