"The UPES team never comes to the Vietnam Youth Student Tournament without the desire to win the championship. We aim to win the THACO Youth Student Tournament 2024, but we also understand that this is a huge challenge. The Vietnam Youth Student Championship trophy is the missing title in the collection of student championship titles of the UPES team. This is also an extremely prestigious championship and we must strive to win it. This tournament with the teams participating in the final round (VCK) all have real strength, with the next season being stronger than the previous season, after extremely harsh screening in the qualifying round", coach Pham Thai Vinh emphasized.
In the first TNSV season - 2023, the UPES team showed their strength. They passed the qualifying round as group winners and convincingly defeated Van Hien University with a score of 3-0 in the play-off match. In the final round, coach Pham Thai Vinh and his team continued to play well, becoming a strong candidate for the championship after a dominant 3-0 victory over Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry in the quarter-finals.
However, in the semi-final, they lost to Hue University team after a nerve-wracking penalty shootout with a score of 2-3. Before that, in the regular match, UPES led 1-0 but was equalized 1-1 in the last minute.
"Losing on penalties was a bad fate for UPES. We knew our psychological weakness was in penalty kicks, so we always wanted to end the match in regulation time. But we couldn't do it, to score from a set piece and lost the penalty shootout. We only blame ourselves, and must improve to return to a better second season," coach Pham Thai Vinh shared at that time.

In the third-place match that followed, UPES defeated the host team Ton Duc Thang University 2-1 to win the consolation prize. "Regardless, the ranking in the first season is still a big milestone in UPES' journey at the Vietnam Youth Student Championship . We always cherish the dream of winning the championship and will make it come true with our actual ability on the field," affirmed coach Pham Thai Vinh.

Compared to the first season, the UPES team aiming for the TNSV THACO Cup 2024 has had many changes. Among them, two excellent players, K'Binh and Dieu Huynh, have both graduated. Coach Pham Thai Vinh has had new additions of equally high quality such as Nguyen Minh Dat and Tran Tuan Anh.
"What makes me most satisfied is that UPES's playing style has become more diverse. In particular, with the increasingly stable performance of Nguyen Minh Dat, we are somewhat assured when having to say goodbye to one of the best players in the TNSV Finals of the first season, Dieu Huynh. Besides, to strengthen the attack in the gap left by K'Binh, in addition to the names that played steadily in the first season such as Tran Dang Khoa, Le Ngoc Quang, Nguyen Quoc Huy, the UPES Finals of the second season also have a necessary addition, striker Tran Tuan Anh. This will be a new factor that promises to play explosively with Nguyen Minh Nhat in the near future," said coach Pham Thai Vinh.

Most of the teams are very well prepared. Even the defending champion Hue University had to say goodbye early in the qualifying round.

UPES's best player, striker Nguyen Minh Nhat, was benched by coach Pham Thai Vinh in the opening match of the 2024 TNSV THACO Cup qualifying round in Ho Chi Minh City, just because he violated team discipline. After this punishment, Minh Nhat and his teammates corrected their mistakes and showed their best abilities on the field.
