Associate Professor Dr. Phan Thi Thanh Thao, Principal of Thanh Do University, shared that the school has just established the Ngo Xuan Do Postdoctoral Scholarship Fund to commemorate and express gratitude for his great contributions to the country's education and science and technology. "We hope that this scholarship will attract many female scientists - those who are working day and night to overcome all limits with their intelligence, passion and courage. The scholarship not only opens the door to knowledge but is also a strong source of motivation for women to dare to dream and assert themselves in the world of science."
Chengdu University, founded in 2004, is one of the first private universities in the country.
Accordingly, during more than 60 years of working in the education sector, People's Teacher Ngo Xuan Do (1941 - 2024) left a deep mark in both teaching and educational management positions.
He was the one who made great contributions in building Mechanical High School I into Hanoi Industrial College and later Hanoi University of Industry.
In 2004, after retiring, he continued to nurture his aspiration to contribute and was the one who laid the foundation for the establishment of Thanh Do University - one of the first private universities in the country.
On December 27, 2024, People's Teacher Ngo Xuan Do passed away, leaving behind endless sorrow for his family, colleagues and generations of students. His name and personality will forever be a shining example of the spirit of learning, innovation and enthusiasm for the cause of educating people.
The Ngo Xuan Do Postdoc Fellowship Foundation was established as a way to realize his last wish: "Continue to contribute to the cause of education and scientific research". This is also an important part of the research development and international integration strategy of Thanh Do University on the occasion of its 20th anniversary. At the same time, it contributes to the implementation of Resolution 57-NQ/TW on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation of the Party Central Committee.
The program is open to scientists working at Thanh Do University or other institutions that collaborate with the school's staff, lecturers, and students, who have a doctoral degree and whose research direction is consistent with the school's training programs or priority areas such as digital transformation, artificial intelligence, educational innovation, and the United Nations' sustainable development goals.
Ngo Xuan Do Postdoctoral Fellowship is expected to award 10-15 scholarships each year.
During the 2025 - 2029 period, the total budget of the program is up to 5 billion VND, expected to award 10-15 scholarships per year. Each project is funded from 50 million to 750 million VND, depending on the scale and nature of the proposal. In addition to basic research results such as scientific articles, monographs, the program also funds practical application products such as inventions, textbooks, training systems, etc. The minimum project implementation period is 12 months and the maximum is 36 months, with a possible extension of no more than 12 months.
Research proposals will be evaluated in two rounds: Evaluation by independent experts and approval by the Evaluation Council established by Thanh Do University. The Council will meet quarterly to review and accept funding programs based on the capacity of the scientist, novelty, creativity, applicability of the topic and suitability with the program's objectives. The Research Institute for Education and Knowledge Transfer (REK Institute) is the unit directly managing and operating the program.
The establishment of the Ngo Xuan Do Postdoctoral Scholarship Fund is not only a deep gratitude to a dedicated teacher but also a long-term commitment of Thanh Do University to the mission of education, science and innovation. This will be a solid foundation for the school to continue to develop academic resources and expand domestic and international cooperation.
