The man who turned wasteland into lotus pond, earning millions every day

In the middle of the countryside of Quang Thai (now village 10, Quang Binh commune, Thanh Hoa), the brilliant lotus ponds with their sweet fragrance are becoming a favorite destination for tourists every summer. Few people know that the person behind this beauty is Ms. Huyen Chi - a hard-working, daring and determined woman.

In addition to her administrative work at the Commune People's Committee, Ms. Huyen Chi and her husband spend all their free time renovating fields that have been abandoned for many years. Realizing that the land is still fertile and muddy - very suitable for lotus growth, she decided to invest in planting lotus instead of leaving the land empty. Renovating abandoned fields is not easy, but she is not afraid of difficulties, wading through the fields every day, plowing, and building banks to prepare for the lotus blooming season.

The results were worth the effort. A few years later, the lotus fields she planted were in full bloom, showing off their bright pink color and their fragrance spreading throughout the region. Her lotus has many petals, large flowers and long-lasting fragrance, and is sought after by people in the area as well as neighboring districts. During peak season, her family earns about one million VND a day from selling lotus.

Not only growing and selling lotus, Ms. Huyen Chi also creatively invested in building bamboo bridges and huts to welcome tourists to visit and take photos. The simple bridges in the middle of the lotus pond have become ideal check-in spots, attracting many tourists to combine swimming in Quang Thai beach and experiencing the countryside.

From the lotus pond model, she also created seasonal jobs for many local workers. Many people in the commune also followed her model to improve their fields and develop their family economy .

"Seeing people abandon their fields for so long, I felt so sorry. I always thought that the land was still good, why didn't I do something to take advantage of it?", Ms. Huyen Chi said. It was this boldness and spirit of not being afraid of difficulties that turned the seemingly abandoned land into a stable source of livelihood and a unique tourist destination, attracting tourists from all over.

Ms. Huyen Chi is a typical image of a capable, creative woman who dares to think and dare to do. From abandoned fields, she has created a lotus space that is both beautiful and profitable, while contributing to preserving the beauty of the countryside, connecting agriculture with community tourism.
