Young Vietnamese and the dream of AI for public health

Not only is it a journey of self-development, through technological dreams and efforts, a group of young Vietnamese people are making their mark globally by exploiting the potential of traditional medicinal herbs.

GTC 2025 - the world's leading AI (artificial intelligence) technology conference organized by NVIDIA last March in San Jose (California, USA), attracted the attention of many international technology companies.

Among thousands of applications submitted from all over the world, NYB.AI - an AI model developed by a group of young people from the 9X generation from Vietnam - was selected to introduce to all delegates attending GTC 2025.

NYB.AI is considered one of the pioneering models in applying technology to change the way people research and develop pharmaceuticals.

In 2021, Nguyen Hoang Truong Giang (born in 1999, CEO of NYB.AI) was given priority by professors at Nanyang Technological University (NTU - Singapore) to join Nanyang Biologics (NYB), a pioneering company in research and development of drugs to treat cancer, metabolic disorders and neurodegeneration.

During his time at NYB, Truong Giang realized that traditional methods of drug discovery in the lab were not only slow but also expensive. Meanwhile, AI has shown its ability to revolutionize the drug discovery process, helping to shorten the time and significantly reduce the cost of research.

After studying and working abroad, Truong Giang returned home to find teammates and at the end of 2024, Giang proposed the idea of establishing NYB.AI - a subsidiary of NYB, specializing in applying AI to the screening and detection of natural compounds with therapeutic potential, and NYB.AI was officially born in November 2024.

Truong Giang expressed: “More than 50% of the NYB.AI team is made up of Vietnamese international students, but no matter how far we go, our journey always has one thing in common: Vietnam is the origin of our aspirations, and also the reason to return. With NYB.AI, we believe that it is not just about doing science , but also about building the future of a nation, with the hands of the young generation of Vietnam.”

Besides, what makes this group of young people more confident in their great ambitions in life is the spirit of social responsibility of young people in the new era of the nation.

“Many young Vietnamese people want to build products and solutions that have social significance and long-term impact on the community. And it is this spirit of service, dedication, and innovation that is the greatest source of strength that helps young Vietnamese people make a real mark on the global technology map,” Truong Giang added.

The NYB.AI team is dedicated to: “If one day, patients no longer have to wait decades for a new treatment method, when serious diseases have more hope thanks to AI helping to find medicine faster, people will immediately think of experts and inventions with Vietnamese imprints, then that is the most meaningful achievement we are aiming for”.

Promoting the strengths of local medicinal herbs

NYB.AI focuses on applying AI to optimize the drug discovery and development process.

“Instead of testing each compound manually, NYB.AI's AI technology can scan and analyze millions of compounds from nature, accurately predict which compounds are likely to interact with disease-causing proteins and eliminate those that are not potential,” Trieu Vu Duy (Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of NYB.AI) analyzed.

The special feature of NYB.AI is to search and discover compounds of natural origin, especially medicinal herbs familiar to Asians - including Vietnam.

Vu Duy added: “AI helps open up opportunities to combine modern science and traditional medical knowledge, to develop new safe therapies that are suitable for the Vietnamese body, while contributing to preserving and enhancing the traditional medical heritage. Step by step, we aim to make Vietnam a leading regional center for AI application in pharmaceutical research - where technology serves people, based on local strengths and endogenous capacity.”

Not only is it an effort for the technological dream of the young generation growing up with modern applications, NYB.AI also carries the aspiration for young people to exploit the value of the nation's heritage with modern and global thinking.
