Diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Morocco were established in 1961; after 30 years of interruption, the two countries resumed relations in 1991 and achieved many cooperative achievements in various fields, especially from 2004 to present.

Regarding high-level delegation exchanges, most recently, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan paid an official visit to Morocco (March 2019) and Moroccan House of Representatives President Habib El Malki paid an official visit to Vietnam (December 2017). The two sides actively supported each other at multilateral forums.

In terms of economy, cooperation focuses on the trade sector with bilateral turnover increasing steadily every year (13-14%), from 169.2 million USD in 2017 to over 300 million USD in 2024; in which Vietnam mainly exports to Morocco electronic products, coffee, pepper, textiles, fabrics, fibers of all kinds, etc.; and imports animal feed, fertilizers, etc.

Multilaterally, the two sides maintain contact and consultation at forums such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the Francophone Parliamentary Union (APF).

With the active support of the Vietnamese National Assembly - Chair of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) 2020, the Moroccan Parliament was officially admitted as an AIPA Observer (September 2020).

It is expected that during the visit, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man will have meetings and talks with senior leaders of Morocco; attend a seminar on legal policies to promote economic, trade and investment cooperation between Vietnam and Morocco; receive the President of the Morocco-Vietnam Friendship Association, President of the Morocco-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians Group; meet with officials and staff of the Embassy and the Vietnamese community in Morocco, etc.

This is the first official visit by a key Vietnamese leader to Morocco in six years. The visit by the National Assembly Chairman will create a strong impetus for the two sides to continue promoting cooperation, especially in trade, investment, agriculture and tourism, towards the target of bilateral trade turnover reaching 500 million USD in the coming years.
