China has just attracted global attention by building the Yajiang-1 AI center at an altitude of 3,600m on the Tibetan Plateau. The facility is part of a “Data East, Computing West” strategy to move data processing to renewable energy-rich regions.
The naturally cold and low oxygen environment saves cooling costs and significantly reduces power consumption. The center is designed to handle up to 4 million hours of AI training per year, equivalent to saving 320 million kWh of electricity.
Waste heat recovery systems also help heat the surrounding area, cutting 12,000 tons of coal consumption each year. Yajiang-1 uses 25,000 square meters of solar panels, generating 48 GWh of clean electricity per year. Despite being located in an ecologically sensitive area, the center achieves a PUE energy efficiency of less than 1.3, 40% higher than the average.
China hopes this will be a “strategic node” in its trans-Himalayan green computing plan. Dear readers, please watch more videos : AI Trash Cleaning | Hanoi 18:00
