Vietnam welcomed nearly 1.4 million international visitors in May, down 10% compared to April but up more than 50% compared to the same period in 2023. In the first 5 months, Vietnam welcomed nearly 7.6 million visitors, up nearly 65% compared to the same period in 2023.

The above data was announced by the General Statistics Office this morning, May 29.

Thus, it can be seen that after the first 4 months of the year, the number of foreign visitors reached a high increase, in May this number has leveled off. Tourism experts say this is normal. Because the peak season for international visitors in Vietnam is from October to April. Summer is also the peak season for tourism in European and Northeast Asian markets, so the number of international visitors to Vietnam is also affected.

In particular, according to some travel agency representatives, another objective factor that caused the number of international visitors last month to not be as expected was because airfares to Vietnam this year were expensive, so European and American visitors have changed their travel direction.

Notably, after many consecutive months holding the top position as the market sending the most visitors to Vietnam, this May, South Korea (with more than 351,000 arrivals) ceded the top position to China with more than 357,000 arrivals.

The remaining markets in the top 10 include Taiwan, Japan, India, the US, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Australia.

According to data from the General Statistics Office, the number of international visitors still comes most by air with nearly 1.2 million arrivals, followed by road and sea.

In general, in the first 5 months of the year, Vietnam's tourism industry has begun to show positive signs of recovery after the pandemic. This result is thanks to the attention of all levels and sectors, which have issued many policies to facilitate tourism. Along with that is the effort of the entire industry from central management agencies to localities, businesses, associations... to implement promotional activities, develop products and services, diversify cultural, sports and tourism events, ensure the tourism environment and service quality to meet the needs of tourists.

International travel websites, global media agencies, experts, foreign travel bloggers... also continuously recommend Vietnam as an ideal destination for international tourists, suggesting outstanding destinations, special dishes, and interesting experiences when coming to Vietnam.
