On August 27, at the International Center for Interdisciplinary Science and Education (ICISE, Gia Lai province), the 2nd Vietnam International Conference on Genomic Biology (VICGB 2025) opened, with the theme "Beyond the genome: The Omics era and its impacts".
The presence of many leading speakers in the field of international genomics creates a vibrant forum for academic exchange.
VICGB 2025 is organized by the Vietnam Science Association and ICISE Center in collaboration with the International University - Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City. With the participation of more than 70 professors, scientists, young researchers, postgraduates and students from 11 countries around the world.
The presence of many leading speakers in the field of genomics created a vibrant academic exchange forum. Scientists from Singapore, Spain, China, Malaysia, Canada, Hong Kong, India, Taiwan, etc. brought with them new research projects and valuable experiences, contributing to connecting international knowledge with the research community in Vietnam.
The genome has long been considered the “book of life”, storing all the genetic information of an organism or virus. This is the key to helping humanity gain a deeper understanding of the biological world and solve related problems.
The advent of high-throughput sequencing techniques has ushered in the omics era (modern biological techniques that study all biological molecular components such as genes, RNA, proteins, etc.), taking research beyond the scope of the genome, covering all biological molecules and their interactions.
With the help of advanced bioinformatics tools, scientists can analyze huge amounts of data with high accuracy, and have wide applications in medicine, agriculture, industry and the environment.
This is a breakthrough period for science and technology, where big data, artificial intelligence and bioinformatics tools join forces, opening new directions for precision medicine, sustainable agriculture, bioindustry and environmental protection.
During the four working days, the workshop had nearly 40 scientific reports in plenary and parallel sessions. The content focused on the topics: omics in human and animal research, omics in microorganisms and plants, applications of artificial intelligence and bioinformatics in biology.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Hoai - Center for Infectious Disease Research, International University - Ho Chi Minh City National University, shares information.
A bioinformatics training course was also held prior to the workshop. Participants were exposed to the latest analytical tools from Nanopore, PacBio to proteomics with PEAKS Studio software. The course helps young researchers master the process, from experimental design to in-depth data analysis.
VICGB 2025 is not just about presenting research. The conference is also an opportunity to form an omics science community in Vietnam.
The organizers hope that the conference will expand the Vietnamese omics network, moving towards the establishment of the Vietnam Omics Association. This will be a place to connect scientists, research facilities and businesses, to promote new generation research serving science, education and industry.
