Martyr Phan Tan Tai, born in 1992, is an officer of the Drug Crime Investigation Police Team, District 6 Police (formerly).
At about 6:50 p.m. on August 2, 2021, an inter-ward patrol team of 4 officers and soldiers (including Senior Lieutenant Phan Tan Tai) was on patrol and epidemic prevention control duty.
On patrol, the task force discovered a young man named Hua Han Vo (born in 1994) going out unnecessarily, violating epidemic prevention regulations. The task force checked his papers and suspected that he was using illegal drugs, so they asked him to go to the ward police station for settlement.
On the way, the subject did not comply and drove away, so the patrol team chased after him. During the pursuit, Vo showed signs of forcing the car, causing Senior Lieutenant Phan Tan Tai's car to run onto the sidewalk and crash into the wall of a house on Lo Gom Street (formerly Ward 8, District 6). Comrade Phan Tan Tai was taken to the emergency room but passed away at 9:30 p.m. the same day.
