Ho Chi Minh City implements plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in waste management

On June 10, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee issued a decision to implement the Plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the field of waste management by 2030 in Ho Chi Minh City.

According to the plan, the goal is to implement measures and activities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, including methane, in the field of waste management to achieve emission reduction targets in accordance with the city's socio -economic conditions; Raise awareness among people and businesses; Strengthen coordination between ministries and the city in managing urban development to respond to climate change.

Ho Chi Minh City has set out a number of specific tasks: Regarding solid waste treatment, it will minimize solid waste, classify domestic solid waste at source; Treat with methane recovery for suitable organic domestic solid waste; Recycle solid waste; Produce compost; incinerate solid waste and incinerate waste to generate electricity; produce fuel pellets; bury with methane recovery.

For domestic wastewater treatment, increase collection and centralized treatment of domestic wastewater; treat domestic wastewater with methane recovery.

For industrial wastewater treatment, reduce industrial wastewater generation at source; recover methane from industrial wastewater treatment.

This Decision takes effect from July 1, 2025.
