On the evening of July 18, the team had their final training session at GBK Madya Stadium (Jakarta), completing preparations before the match against U23 Laos. VFF Vice President and Head of Delegation Tran Anh Tu was also present to accompany the team.
Midfielder Le Van Thuan returned in time to replace the injured Thanh Nhan. Having participated in many recent training sessions, Van Thuan quickly integrated and was ready to play if given the opportunity.
To ensure physical strength and avoid injury risks, coach Kim Sang-sik has also reduced the amount of exercise, while reviewing the squad and perfecting tactics for the match.
Goalkeeper Tran Trung Kien shared that the whole team is in good spirits and has high determination. He assessed that the competition for the goalkeeper position is quite tight and said that he always tries to learn from goalkeeper coach Lee Won-jae - who has attended 4 World Cups.
Sharing with the media, goalkeeper Tran Trung Kien said: “My team and I are very focused, heading into the match with the highest determination and best spirit. We consider all opponents the same and when we step onto the field, we will play our best to achieve the best results.”
Talking about the competition for the goalkeeper position, Trung Kien emphasized: “The difference between the three goalkeepers is not much. Personally, I always try to perform well in every training session and learn valuable experiences from goalkeeper coach Lee Won-jae. Every training session is an opportunity for me to improve.”
Trung Kien (born in 2003, 1.91m tall) is currently on the HAGL payroll and is one of the potential young goalkeepers of Vietnamese football. He was promoted to the HAGL first team from the 2023-2024 season and has played for the Vietnam national team and U23 national team under coach Kim.
The match between U23 Vietnam and U23 Laos (Group B) will take place at 5:00 p.m. today (July 19) at Patriot Stadium (Bekasi, Indonesia), broadcast live on FPT Play.
