Xinhua News Agency quoted information from the Guangdong Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters as saying that Guangdong Province activated a level IV emergency response at 6 p.m. on July 18, as Typhoon Wipha moved closer to land, posing a direct threat to the area.

The provincial meteorological station previously recorded that Typhoon Wipha was moving west-northwest at 20-25 km per hour and was gradually strengthening. The storm is expected to enter the East Sea on the morning of July 19 and is likely to make landfall in the area between western Guangdong province and the Pearl River Delta on July 20.
Due to the impact of Typhoon Wipha, scattered showers and strong winds are forecast from the night of July 18 to July 19. The storm is forecast to have the most serious impact from the night of July 19 to July 21, with heavy rainfall occurring across southern and central Guangdong, including the possibility of extremely heavy rain in the western region and the densely populated Pearl River Delta.
The government has mobilized a comprehensive emergency response force, deploying rescue vessels, anti-pollution vessels and helicopters on standby, with all efforts focused on protecting coastal communities and ensuring the safety of nearby residents.
It is known that China has a four-level emergency response system for storms, of which level I is the most serious level.
