According to The Guardian on July 7, President Pezeshkian said that Israel once tried to assassinate him by bombing the location where the Iranian leader was meeting.

"They tried. They tried and failed," President Pezeshkian told US reporter Tucker Carlson when asked if he believed Israel had tried to assassinate him.

"It was not America that was behind the assassination attempt on me, it was Israel. I was in a meeting and they (Israel) deliberately bombed the place where we were meeting," Pezeshkian continued, but did not say whether the incident took place during the recent conflict.

"We did not start this war and do not want this conflict to continue in any way," the Iranian president stressed.

Last month, Defense Minister Israel Katz admitted that his country had tried to assassinate Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei but had no chance.

"If Iran's Supreme Leader Khamenei was in our sights, we would have taken him out. Khamenei knew this, so he was in a very secret place and cut off communication with his commanders. So we had no chance to assassinate him," Minister Katz told Israel's Channel 13 on June 26.

The statement by Defense Minister Israel Katz was made just days after Israel and Iran agreed to a ceasefire on June 24, ending 12 days of conflict.
