All subsidized buses will be cashless from early 2025

It is expected that by early 2025, all subsidized bus routes in Ho Chi Minh City will accept cashless payments.


On November 20, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport announced that it had coordinated with the Urban Railway Company No. 1 (HURC1 - the company operating metro line No. 1), the Public Transport Management Center and Mastercard to install and test a cashless payment system on a number of bus routes.

This is an activity to modernize and increase the efficiency of public transport under the direction of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee.

Accordingly, the parties agreed to test cashless payments on 10 buses on 5 routes, including: Route 3 (Ben Thanh - Thanh Xuan); 14 (Mien Dong bus station - Mien Tay bus station); 32 (Mien Tay bus station - Nga Tu Ga bus station), 102 (Sai Gon bus station - Mien Tay bus station and 122 (An Suong - Tan Quy bus station).

Mastercard installs automatic fare collection devices on buses and provides cashless payment solutions.

After two weeks of trial operation, the Center will evaluate the results and develop a plan to expand the system across the entire Ho Chi Minh City bus network.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport will also organize a conference to introduce the cashless payment system (expected to be held in early December) for units to report, evaluate, comment, and share the results of the complete test of the solution to develop and expand the cashless payment system for the city's bus routes.

It is expected that by early 2025, subsidized bus routes will be 100% cashless.

It is expected that by early 2025, the cashless payment system in public transport will be officially put into operation on all subsidized bus routes in Ho Chi Minh City.

According to information from the Public Transport Management Center (HCMC Department of Transport), it is expected that there will be 61 bus routes connecting to 14 metro stations No. 1.

Of these, 11 routes have buses at the stations (Van Thanh station (2 routes), Binh Thai station (4 routes), New Eastern Bus Station (5 routes).

Of these, there are 50 subsidized routes and 11 non-subsidized routes, operating from 3am to nearly 11pm and with intervals from 15 minutes to 90 minutes (depending on the route).

Previously, the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee approved the policy of signing a cooperation agreement between Urban Railway One Member Co., Ltd. No. 1 and Mastercard Company as proposed by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport.

The Department of Transport is assigned to closely coordinate with Urban Railway One Member Co., Ltd. No. 1 in implementing a cashless payment solution for the bus system.
