Women's Union members of An Thuan Branch use IMO solution to fertilize ornamental plants. |
After being trained on methods of classifying household waste at source and treating organic waste using indigenous microorganisms (IMO) technology into bio-fertilizer for plants, Ms. Hoang Thi Be, Head of the An Thuan Women's Union, deployed and mobilized members in the union to actively respond.
With available ingredients in daily life such as bananas, sugar, rice bran, yogurt, clean water... to create IMO microbial solution; organic waste from the kitchen and crops is also produced by women members into microbial fertilizer from IMO to fertilize crops.
Ms. Be said: Most of the members of the association are farmers and gardeners, so when they were trained, guided on the process and supported with the original IMO, they all enthusiastically responded and started implementing it. Not only using IMO to process organic waste into biofertilizer, some female members also make dishwashing liquid, floor cleaner...
Visiting Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh's house, we were impressed by the blooming roses, the lush, fruit-laden trees, and the lush green vegetable garden. Ms. Binh boasted: I fertilize all the trees in the garden with IMO biological preparation solution and self-composted organic biological fertilizer. Since I learned about the IMO biological preparation method, I have completely stopped using chemical fertilizers. Thanks to that, the crop yield is higher, the soil is fresh and porous. Not only does it make full use of organic waste and agricultural by-products, but it also saves a lot of costs.
Like Ms. Binh, for over a year now, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh's vegetable and fruit garden has been fertilized entirely with IMO biological products. Not only does she fertilize the plants in her garden, Ms. Thanh also composts them to sell to other people, earning extra income. On average, a 5-liter can of IMO biological product is sold by Ms. Thanh for 50,000 VND.
In order to expand the movement of classifying and treating waste at source, An Thuan Women's Union not only trained each member on how to make IMO yeast, how to classify waste, how to soak and compost organic waste with IMO yeast into fertilizer for plants... but also simultaneously deployed the "Green House" model. Accordingly, recyclable waste such as cans, scrap paper... is classified by members at home, then collected to contribute to the "Green House". Every year, from the "Green House" revenue, the union gives gifts, visits members in difficult circumstances and sponsors orphans in the area.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Van, Vice President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, President of the Kim Tra Ward Women's Union, said: An Thuan Women's Union is one of the typical examples in the movement of "Classifying and treating waste at the source". Women members not only turn waste into money, into resources... but also reduce littering that pollutes the environment, joining hands to protect the living environment. This has a great impact on the way women cultivate, gradually using biological products in developing agriculture in an organic and sustainable direction; knowing how to utilize by-products and agricultural waste for composting, creating fertilizer to reduce production costs, ensuring safety for themselves and consumers.
