"Consider Con Dao as your second home - where you not only take care of patients but also accompany your colleagues, support training, share knowledge and spread the value of healthcare ," Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health Tang Chi Thuong advised the doctors.

Young doctor ready to take on the task

The seven specialist doctors who were rotated to Con Dao special zone in the first batch came from six different leading hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City such as Nhi Dong 1, Trauma and Orthopedics, Nhan Dan Gia Dinh... Most of them were resident doctors, including doctors with doctoral degrees, they were enthusiastic, passionate and ready to devote themselves to the people of Con Dao.

As the only female doctor among the first seven doctors who volunteered to work in Con Dao Special Zone, Dr. Tran Thi Mai Lien - Emergency Department of Children's Hospital 1 - shared that she was no less nervous because she was one of the first doctors to participate. But she was not worried because she had colleagues who were always by her side, and the entire hospital always supported her.

To prepare for the upcoming one-month business trip, Dr. Lien has prepared her health, expertise, and arranged work in the department to be ready for the task of examining pediatric patients and sharing specialized pediatric issues with doctors in Con Dao.

For Dr. Ly Bao Duy, Department of Thoracic Surgery of Goiter, Binh Dan Hospital: "Con Dao is not only a sacred land but also always in my heart. I carry with me my feelings and responsibilities to contribute to improving the quality of life and health care for the people here.

Con Dao is a remote area of the city, where people are in dire need of medical support. With passion and effort, my colleagues and I will try our best to improve the quality of medical examination and treatment, improve medical services and bring peace of mind to people and tourists in Con Dao.

Although I am a bit worried about getting used to the new environment and taking on a pioneering role during a one-month mission, I believe that with the support from the hospital, the Department of Health and local authorities, we will complete the task well. A month is not too long but not short either, enough for the doctors to make their best efforts and make practical contributions to Con Dao's healthcare system."

More doctors come, people feel secure

Speaking with Tuoi Tre, Mr. Nguyen Van Manh - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Con Dao Special Zone - said he was very happy to hear that there were good specialist doctors from the top hospitals coming to work, now people and tourists will be less worried.

"For specialized diseases, in the past, people in Con Dao had to move to the center of Ho Chi Minh City. Many families had to go to the mainland nearly two months before giving birth to prepare for the birth until the child was strong enough to return.

They were very excited to hear that specialized doctors, including PhDs and Masters, would come to support. It is expected that this program will bring new vitality, help reduce diseases and improve the quality of life. This rotation of specialized doctors not only meets essential medical needs but also brings great confidence and expectations to the people of Con Dao," said Mr. Manh.

Mr. Tran Vinh Hung, director of Binh Dan Hospital, emphasized that the seven doctors from six hospitals deployed in this first wave are a typical image of the sense of responsibility, dedication and pride of the entire medical sector.

The hospital’s working group will arrive in Con Dao on September 11 or 12, a week after the launch ceremony, to survey, evaluate and report the results from the doctors. From there, the operating room will soon be deployed at the Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center, meeting essential medical needs.

Many doctors voluntarily registered to go to Con Dao

According to Mr. Thuong, after the merger, the city's health sector determined the spirit of service: "Ho Chi Minh City's health sector will not only expand geographically but also spread its sense of responsibility to the most remote areas such as Con Dao". The city will prioritize all resources to shorten the distance of health care between the center and remote areas, in which Con Dao is a key point.

Immediately after the program was implemented, it received a strong response and spread from medical staff throughout the industry, especially general and specialized hospitals. With this activity, despite the remote location like Con Dao, local people and tourists will have access to professional and quality medical services. This is a practical action demonstrating the orientation of comprehensive and equitable development in the field of health care.

In addition to increasing professional support, another highlight is the organization of a blood bank at the Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center, jointly implemented by Hung Vuong Hospital, to meet the need for emergency blood transfusions, especially in obstetric and surgical emergencies. Even hemodialysis machines will soon be put into service for locals and tourists.

At the same time, there will be short-term medical examinations and treatments performed by specialized hospitals such as ophthalmology, dentistry, ENT... It is expected that in September 2025, the first medical examination will be for oral care for students, managed by the Central Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology in Ho Chi Minh City.

Currently, the number of doctors voluntarily registering to go to Con Dao has been extended until 2026 so that there will always be specialist doctors on the island until a general hospital with a permanent staff is established. In the long term, the city's health sector hopes that the City Party Committee and the City People's Council will soon have specific policies and mechanisms so that hospital directors can continue to send people to Con Dao with the health sector's determination: "No one is left behind, even in the farthest places".
