On the afternoon of July 1, V-League Awards 2025 will take place in Hanoi . VPF will present individual awards and collective titles to players, coaches and clubs participating in the last Vietnamese professional football season.
The event was not attended by all individuals due to work commitments. For example, coach Vu Hong Viet of Nam Dinh Steel Club - the defending V-League champions - went to Japan to study.
In addition, striker Nguyen Tien Linh has asked to be busy and will not attend. The organizers have contacted Tien Linh but this player could not arrange time to go to Hanoi to receive the award.
VPF announced that Tien Linh is in the list of typical squad for the 2024-2025 season. This is a recognition for the effort of scoring 13 goals of the Becamex Binh Duong player this season.
Unfortunately for Tien Linh, he was deducted one goal (from 14 to 13) on the eve of the V-League Awards. If he had kept his 14 goals, the striker born in 1997 would have been the joint top scorer.
Tien Linh had his goal deducted against Hai Phong FC in round 25 at Lach Tray Stadium. Initially, the organizers counted Tien Linh scoring 2 goals in that match, but recently they counted it as an own goal.
Upon hearing this news, the Vietnamese national team striker could not help but feel disappointed. He expressed on his personal page: "Really sad". Many people consoled him that Tien Linh is still the "domestic top scorer".
However, the title "domestic top scorer" is just a title, referring to the Vietnamese player who scores the most goals in the V-League, not the "player who scores the most goals" regardless of nationality.
If VPF does not cancel Tien Linh's 14th goal, he will have the same record as foreign strikers Alan Sebastiao (Hanoi Police) and Lucas Vinicius (Hai Phong Club).
Tien Linh's best achievement was scoring 15 goals in the 2018 season. He still lost to his senior Nguyen Anh Duc in the 2017 season. At that time, Anh Duc had 17 goals and won the title of "top scorer".
