Tien Giang: Promoting its own advantages

Promoting the results achieved over 6 years of implementing Resolution 10 of the Provincial Party Committee on economic and urban development of 3 regions of Tien Giang province to 2020 and orientation to 2030 (referred to as Resolution 10), Tien Giang focuses on solutions to continue effectively implementing this Resolution with the goal of unlocking the potential and advantages of each region.

Based on the province's orientation, economic -urban regions have focused on exploiting competitive advantages in socio-economic development. Over the period of implementing Resolution 10, many economic sectors of localities have achieved important results.

EXPLOITATION OF AGRICULTURAL STRENGTHS IN EACH REGION

Over the period of implementing Resolution 10, the agricultural sector of each economic-urban region has achieved remarkable results. Accordingly, agricultural production activities have developed, based on their own orientations and strengths. The province continues to implement solutions to reorganize production, apply science and technology, and link production and consumption on key products with competitive advantages of each region.

In the Western region, the rice production area is mainly developed in the North of Trung Luong - My Thuan Expressway; fruit orchards are in the South of National Highway 1. Agricultural production in this region is focused on promoting the application of scientific and technological advances, building large fields, forming concentrated commodity production areas such as: durian with an area of ​​over 21,700 hectares, jackfruit about 15,000 hectares, pineapple over 14,000 hectares. Over 74% of the province's fruit growing area is concentrated in this region. In addition, the trade, service and milling industry systems in the region are also quite strongly developed.

For the Central region, the strength is vegetable and food production, accounting for nearly 50% of the province's vegetable output. This region has also formed 2 specialized fruit growing areas such as: Dragon fruit about 7,000 hectares, accounting for nearly 80% of the province's dragon fruit area; Sapo about 2,000 hectares, accounting for nearly 95% of the province's Sapo area. This is also the province's key livestock area, accounting for about 59% of the poultry herd, nearly 58% of the province's cattle herd; fish farming has also developed quite strongly. In particular, the region has 2 typical farming objects: black chicken with a total herd of more than 2.5 million birds and more than 1.2 million quails.

In the Eastern region, with the characteristics of salinity and brackish water, this region has enhanced the freshwater supply system combined with reasonable crop arrangement. The region has focused on building high-quality rice areas and safe vegetable production areas.

In recent times, the agricultural sector has focused on implementing the project “Crop cutting, crop conversion and crop structure in the eastern districts of Tien Giang province by 2025”; focusing on restructuring the shrimp and clam industries. At the same time, focusing on crop rotation, bringing crops to the fields... to help the agricultural production activities of the region gradually adapt to climate change.

INDUSTRY AND URBANITY

Industrial development has been identified as one of the key areas of the province in the past and in the future. Accordingly, the province has focused on effectively implementing the Project on Restructuring the Industrial Sector of Tien Giang Province to 2020, with a vision to 2030.

At the same time, drastically implement new mechanisms and policies, promote administrative procedure reform, attract and call for investment to contribute to the effective implementation of Resolution 10 in the industrial sector. In the period of 2021 - 2024, the province has attracted a variety of industrial types, both inside and outside industrial parks and clusters (ICs) and new industries such as wind power.

For the Central region, industrial production activities have grown steadily, with 2 industrial parks (Trung An, Tan My Chanh) and 2 industrial zones (IPs) My Tho and Tan Huong already in operation. Therefore, the region has many industrial production enterprises of fairly large scale, with industries such as: Processing of seafood, vegetables, animal feed, garments...; foreign-invested enterprises, with industries such as garments, shoe and handbag manufacturing.

In the Western region, industrial production is developed due to Long Giang Industrial Park with diverse industries such as: copper pipes, electronic switching products, animal feed, garment. Cai Be district has An Thanh Industrial Park, Cai Lay town and Cai Lay district mainly concentrate on rice milling enterprises.

In addition, these districts also have a number of industries such as: Garment, wool weaving, agricultural machinery manufacturing, shipbuilding, food processing. The highlight of the region is Tan Phuoc 1 Industrial Park, which has been approved by the Prime Minister for investment policy; at the same time, the investor and Thanh Tan Industrial Park have been approved. Currently, the investor is coordinating with Tan Phuoc District People's Committee to carry out procedures for compensation and site clearance.

In the Eastern region, there is Gia Thuan 1 Industrial Park which has been put into operation and Soai Rap Petroleum Service Industrial Park (with 1 project in operation). The region also has Gia Thuan 2 Industrial Park which has been approved by the Provincial People's Committee for investment policy and has been leased land by the State. The investor is investing in building technical infrastructure.

Along with industrial development, the province also focuses on promoting urban development in economic-urban regions. Accordingly, the province continues to invest in building basic, complete and synchronous urban infrastructure in the central cities of the 3 economic-urban regions in accordance with the characteristics and development scale of each region.

In which, the Central region focuses on urban development, My Tho City, creating connections in urban development. My Tho City focuses on completing the criteria of a type I urban area under the province, acting as a driving force, nucleus, spreading development, connecting with the development of surrounding satellite cities such as Cho Gao and Tan Hiep. Tien Giang also effectively implements Resolution 12 of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee on leadership and building Go Cong Town into Go Cong City by 2025.

On March 19, 2024, the National Assembly Standing Committee passed Resolution 1013 on the arrangement and establishment of wards in Go Cong Town and the establishment of Go Cong City, Tien Giang Province. Thereby, the urbanization rate of the whole province by the entire urban area by the end of 2024 reached 33.1%.
