To support enterprises and cooperatives in developing rural industrial products (RIP), the province has implemented many forms of support, such as investing in modern machinery, organizing fairs, building showrooms and promoting products in newspapers and e-commerce platforms. From 2014 to present, the province has supported 29 rural industrial establishments with production machinery and equipment, with a total support budget of over 4.2 billion VND. Along with that, implementing Resolution No. 128/2020/NQ-HDND on policies to encourage investment in agriculture and rural areas issued by the Provincial People's Council on February 28, 2020, in the period of 2020-2023, the province has supported 20.5 billion VND for 336 organizations and enterprises to develop brands and expand markets; Support 1.4 billion VND for 5 cooperatives to invest in infrastructure... helping cooperative enterprises gradually improve productivity, product value and competitiveness in the market.
The lingzhi mushroom products of Manh Thang Company Limited, Hat Lot Town, Mai Son District, are a testament to the methodical investment, when they achieved the title of typical provincial-level agricultural and rural product in 2024 and 4-star OCOP. Mr. Dao Manh Thang, Director of the Company, said: Established in 2018, the Company has built a closed production process, invested in modern machinery systems, such as heat drying cabinets, slicing machines, steaming tunnels... with a capacity of 30 tons/year. On a factory area of 8,000 m², the Company produces many product lines such as sliced, whole dried lingzhi mushrooms, mushroom extract, mushroom spore wine..., supplying about 10 tons of products to the market each year.
As for Son La Sugarcane Joint Stock Company, in 2023, the company's premium white sugar product was recognized as a typical provincial-level IT product. Mr. Nguyen Van Tai, Director of SLS Sugar Processing Factory, shared: From 2023 to now, the Company has invested nearly 87.5 billion VND to renovate equipment, increase processing capacity, purchase all sugarcane output for farmers and meet environmental protection requirements. In the 2024-2025 crop year, SLS maintains a stable raw material area of 9,268 hectares, expected to harvest about 600,000 tons of sugarcane, producing more than 78,500 tons of sugar of all kinds. The Company's products not only serve the domestic market but are also exported, contributing to affirming the Son La sugar brand in the international market.
From 2014 to present, the Department of Industry and Trade has advised the Provincial People's Committee to organize 5 rounds of voting for typical rural products at the provincial level. The whole province has 148 typical rural products at the provincial level, 23 regional products and 11 national products, mainly in the group of processing agricultural, forestry, aquatic products, food and handicrafts. Many products have brands, are well received by the market, contributing to promoting the development of rural industry.
In 2025, Son La province will organize a vote for typical rural industrial products in the third and fourth quarters. Enterprises, cooperatives, cooperative groups, business households and localities will send their registration lists to the Department of Industry and Trade before July 30. Mr. Nguyen Dinh Phong, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, said: Products participating in the vote for typical rural industrial products in 2025 are classified into four main groups: Handicrafts, agricultural, forestry, fishery and food processing, equipment, machinery, tools and mechanical spare parts, and other products. The evaluation and voting of products will be based on core criteria such as the ability to meet the market and production development potential, socio -economic and environmental efficiency, cultural and aesthetic value of the product. In addition, the organizers also consider additional factors such as quality certifications, other awards or commendations that the product has achieved, as well as the establishment's performance of obligations to the State and social welfare activities.
Being recognized as a typical rural industrial product helps businesses and production establishments in Son La enhance their reputation, expand their markets, contribute to increasing competitiveness and promoting the development of local industry and handicrafts towards international integration.
