Thua Thien Hue warns of prolonged heavy rain, rising flood waters

(Dan Tri) - From the evening of December 11, Thua Thien Hue province will experience prolonged heavy rain, causing flood waters on major rivers to rise, with the flood peak possibly reaching alert level 3.


According to the forecast of the Hydrometeorological Station of Thua Thien Hue province, from the evening of December 11 to 15, there will be rain in this province, scattered moderate rain, heavy rain to very heavy rain in some places; common rainfall is 150-300mm, in some places over 350mm; in mountainous areas of A Luoi, Nam Dong, Phu Loc, Phong Dien districts and Huong Tra town 200-400mm, in some places over 500mm.

Mr. Dang Van Hoa, Chief of the Standing Office of the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Thua Thien Hue province, said that the authorities have requested irrigation and hydroelectric reservoirs in the area to proactively increase operating flow and reduce flooding in the coming time.

Specifically, Ta Trach Lake began regulating at 11:00 a.m. on December 11, with a total discharge of 385-585m3/s.

Huong Dien Hydropower Reservoir began to increase the regulated flow at 2:30 p.m. the same day, with a total regulated flow downstream of 250-500m3/s and adjusted operations depending on the actual flow situation to the reservoir.

According to the Central Central Hydrometeorological Station, due to prolonged heavy rain, a flood is likely to occur on the Huong River and Bo River, with the flood peak at alert level 2 to alert level 3.

To proactively respond to the adverse weather conditions, the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Thua Thien Hue province requested agencies, organizations, districts, towns and Hue city to review and update warnings of locations at risk of floods, flash floods, landslides on hills and mountains; landslides on river banks and coastal areas in the area.

The Committee also requested localities to proactively relocate and evacuate people in areas at risk of flash floods, landslides, deep flooding, and areas that are easily isolated; organize forces to control and direct traffic, and place warning signs at culverts, spillways, deep flooding, fast-flowing water, and landslides and erosion on river banks and coastal areas;...
