The Port of Tallinn (Estonian: Tallinna Sadam) is one of the most important maritime gateways of the Republic of Estonia and one of the largest seaports in the Baltic Sea region. Strategically located on the northern coast of the country, facing the Gulf of Finland, the Port of Tallinn plays a key role in international trade, freight and passenger transport, as well as in the development of Estonia's tourism and defense industry.
The Port of Tallinn is located in the capital city of Tallinn – the political , economic and cultural centre of Estonia. Thanks to its proximity to Finland (only 80km from Helsinki by sea), Latvia, Sweden and Russia, the port serves as a regional maritime transit hub and an essential connection point between Western Europe and the Baltic States and Eastern Europe. With ice-free waters for most of the year, the Port of Tallinn can operate year-round without interruption – a significant advantage over many other ports in the Nordic region.
The Port of Tallinn consists of several component ports spread across the Estonian coast, each with its own distinct function:
Vanasadam Passenger Port (Old City Harbour): Located near the historic centre of Tallinn, this is the country's main passenger port, serving ferry routes connecting Tallinn with Helsinki, Stockholm and Saint Petersburg. It is also a popular destination for international cruise ships.
Muuga Port: The largest and most modern cargo port in Estonia, specializing in import and export activities, especially containers, bulk cargo, oil and chemical products. Muuga Port has a modern warehouse system and the ability to receive large ships with a capacity of up to 300 meters.

Paldiski Port (north and south): These are two specialized ports serving the automotive industry, bulk cargo and oversized and overweight cargo, and also play an important role in NATO's defense logistics in the Baltic region.
Saaremaa Port: For cruise ships and passenger traffic, especially during the summer. This port is located on Saaremaa Island, a popular tourist destination in Estonia.
Paljassaare Port: Specializes in bulk and petroleum transportation, serving as a complement to Muuga Port.

The Port of Tallinn is one of Estonia's largest state-owned enterprises and is listed on the Nasdaq Tallinn Stock Exchange. The port's operations not only generate significant revenues for the national budget, but also directly and indirectly provide employment to tens of thousands of people in the logistics, tourism, construction, and trade sectors.
In recent years, the Port of Tallinn has focused on sustainable development and digitalization strategies. Key projects include:
Green Port: Reducing carbon emissions, switching to renewable energy, electrifying port systems and promoting the use of environmentally friendly fuels.
Smart Port: Apply digital technologies such as artificial intelligence, IoT sensors and blockchain to automate logistics processes and increase operational efficiency.
Green Cruise Tourism: Building infrastructure for electric cruise ships, reducing noise and emissions in areas near the city center.
With its multimodal connections, from seaport to rail, road and air, Tallinn is gradually asserting its position as an integrated transport hub in the Baltic region. The port also serves as a hub for international transport corridors such as the North Sea-Baltic Corridor of the European Union's TEN-T network.
In addition, Tallinn is also an important partner in the Rail Baltica initiative, a project to build a high-speed rail line connecting the Baltic countries to the European rail network, expanding the ability to transfer goods from ports to inland economic centers.
* On this occasion, witnessed by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Vietnam National Shipping Lines (VIMC) discussed and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on cooperation in transferring smart port operation technology with the Port of Talinn. This is an important strategic cooperation that helps promote the modernization of port operations, improve operational efficiency, and is also a testament to the potential and opportunities for cooperation between the two countries.
