The family of Mr. Pang Tin Sin (born in 1969, reflected in Bon Dung 1 residential group, Lang Biang ward - Da Lat) is one of the most successful ethnic minority households in the rose village at the foot of Lang Biang mountain. Realizing that the soil and climate at the foot of Lang Biang mountain are suitable for growing roses, in 2010, Mr. Sin decided to switch from growing rice and vegetables to producing roses. According to Mr. Pang Tin Sin, when he first got acquainted with roses, everything was very new, from cultivation techniques, capital investment in equipment, greenhouses, labor, and market research. To gain knowledge about rose cultivation, Mr. Sin spent a lot of time visiting large flower growing areas in Da Lat such as Van Thanh, Thai Phien, and Dong Anh to learn from experience. At the same time, he participated in training sessions and flower seminars in the province to learn about modern flower growing techniques and high-tech flower growing techniques.
Regarding efficiency, Mr. Sin said that with roses, prices are often agreed upon in advance by farmers and buyers, so they are much more stable and higher. With an area of 1,000 m2 of roses, each month yields about 15,000 flower branches, with a "fixed" price of 1,200 - 1,500 VND/branch, after deducting expenses, flower growers earn at least 10 million VND/month. If you boldly invest more, you can earn tens of millions each month, many times easier than growing coffee or vegetables.
Not far away, Mr. Dang Hong Viet's family is also pruning standard branches to supply to traders. He said that his family grows 4 stars of roses, cutting about 1,200 flowers every day. Because they are well cared for, the harvest is continuous. Flowers are consumed in the free market at a price of 1,700 - 2,000 VND/branch, gardeners earn a profit of 700 - 800 VND/branch. As for households that cooperate with businesses to purchase all year round, the price is only about 1,300 - 1,500 VND/branch. Although low, it is not affected by market fluctuations. On average, each hectare of roses brings in more than 1 billion VND in income, people earn a net profit of 600 million VND or more/year.
Mr. Hoang Xuan Hai - Head of the Urban Infrastructure Economic Department of Lang Biang Ward - Da Lat shared that for many years, the rose growing profession in the locality has brought a stable economic source for many farming households. The conversion of crop structure from vegetables to flowers is highly appreciated by the government and people, completely suitable for the local climate and soil.
In addition to local purebred roses, there are also many imported varieties from Europe that are grafted by experienced farmers on wild rose roots, creating many different types and colors. The locality has also actively supported people in science and technology in improving soil, seedlings, intercropping and applying high-tech agriculture through seminars, exchanges on building sustainable agriculture, training and transferred to people...
According to statistics, the current rose growing area in Lang Biang Ward - Da Lat is estimated at 600 hectares, with an average yield of 1.26 million branches/ha, reaching an output of 756 million branches/year, with an estimated revenue of 831.6 billion VND. In addition, there are currently about 50 businesses and establishments purchasing flowers from farmers, so gardeners face little pressure in terms of output.
In particular, from July 15, 2021, Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee has issued a document allowing the People's Committee of Lac Duong district to previously prepare documents and register the product certification trademark "Lang Biang Rose". Lac Duong District People's Committee has issued regulations on management and use of appropriate trademarks to have strict measures in coordinated supply and demand, aiming to bring the rose brand further. On that basis, currently, communes and wards with rose areas growing in the area have also continued to have plans to build and develop concentrated production areas, build cooperatives to lay the foundation for the formation of specialized rose cooperatives.
