Buon Ma Thuot City is the greenest in Vietnam, with a rate nearly 8 times higher than Hanoi.

This 120-year-old city has the highest density of trees in the country. Currently, Buon Ma Thuot City, Dak Lak Province is considered one of the cities with the highest green tree ratio in the country, the green tree ratio of the whole city is 17.2 m2/person, many times higher than the urban green tree area ratio in Ho Chi Minh City which is only 0.57 m2/person, the green tree ratio in Hanoi is 2.06 m2/person, Hue City is at the top with the green tree ratio of the whole city only 12.9 m2/person. According to the Department of Technical Infrastructure ( Ministry of Construction ), the green tree ratio per person in urban areas of Vietnam is only 2 - 3 m2/person, while the minimum green standard of the United Nations is 10 m2 and the standard of modern cities in the world is from 20 - 25 m2/person.
Right at the eastern gateway of Buon Ma Thuot city, on both sides of Nguyen Luong Bang street (National Highway 27, Hoa Thang commune) is a forest planted from 1940-1945.

The green color of Buon Ma Thuot City is more widespread, thick, beautiful and delicate thanks to the dedicated workers ( Dak Lak Urban Environment Company).
In 1914, Leopold Sabatier (France) returned to take office as Consul in Dak Lak and built the District Chief's Agency Building, now the historical-cultural relic at 04 Nguyen Du (Bao Dai Palace), Buon Ma Thuot City, Dak Lak Province.
Ambassador Leopold Sabatier planted many types of trees in the campus such as Lagerstroemia, Black Star, Camphor tree (in the photo) which have been recognized as Vietnam heritage trees. The tree has a diameter of about 2.5 m, and is over 30 m high. The ancient forest in the center of Buon Ma Thuot City is carefully cared for every day by workers.
Along with the hundred-year-old forests, Buon Ma Thuot city also has “green lungs” such as Buon Ma Thuot Park, 19/5 pine forest and a series of green parks. Streets in the forest, forests in the city help regulate the ecological environment and help Buon Ma Thuot city preserve its unique historical and cultural values.
