Thanh Nhan injured, Van Thuan was called up to replace him at the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 tournament

Before the opening match of the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship, the Vietnam U23 team suffered an unfortunate loss in personnel when striker Nguyen Thanh Nhan was unfortunately injured and could not continue to accompany his teammates.

Thanh Nhan suffered an injury during the training session of the U23 Vietnam team on the evening of July 16, after landing unbalanced and had to leave the session. On the morning of July 17, the medical team took the player to the hospital for an MRI scan. The results showed that Thanh Nhan had damaged the ligaments in his left ankle and could not recover in time to participate in the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 tournament.

This is not the first time the young striker has missed important matches and tournaments due to injury. Previously, Thanh Nhan had to miss the 2023 Asian Cup Finals, could not compete in the 32nd SEA Games Bronze Medal match and most recently could not participate in the 2024 AFC U23 Championship Finals.

In order to timely supplement the force, coach Kim Sang Sik decided to recall versatile midfielder Le Van Thuan to replace Thanh Nhan. The Korean coach also expressed regret and encouraged Thanh Nhan to return home to have the best conditions for treatment and recovery.

Le Van Thuan, born in 2006, is one of the outstanding young players who grew up from the Dong A Thanh Hoa training center. In the 2024-2025 season, Van Thuan was promoted to the first team of the Thanh team to compete in the V.League and left many impressions with 16 appearances, scoring 4 goals and contributing 2 assists, thereby receiving the title "Best young player of V.League 2024-2025".

With his impressive performance, Le Van Thuan was called up to the Vietnam U23 team in preparation for the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 tournament, the 2026 Asian U23 qualifiers and towards the 33rd SEA Games. However, in the final list of 23 players, Van Thuan did not appear.

Thanh Nhan's unfortunate injury is a very regrettable thing for this player personally, but it opens up an opportunity for the 18-year-old midfielder of Dong A Thanh Hoa to rejoin the team, ready to take on the task of replacing his senior to contribute to the U23 Vietnam shirt at this year's regional tournament.

According to plan, Van Thuan will be in Jakarta tomorrow (July 18).
