A US aircraft carrier is en route to the Middle East after stopping at a base in the Western Pacific, while a Chinese aircraft carrier is in the Bohai Sea, according to a recent Newsweek magazine roundup.

US Navy

USS Carl Vinson : Philippine Sea

The USS Carl Vinson departed Guam on March 28 en route to the Middle East on a carrier rotation mission as the Pentagon steps up attacks on Houthi targets in Yemen.

USS George Washington : Yokosuka (Japan)

The USS George Washington remains at the Yokosuka naval base, according to a local government website that records port visits by nuclear-powered US warships.

USS Nimitz : Eastern Pacific

The USS Nimitz, the oldest of the US aircraft carriers, has left San Diego, California, for its final mission. The ship will head to the Western Pacific to replace the USS Carl Vinson, which is leaving the region for the Middle East.

The latest images released by the US Navy show the USS Nimitz conducting exercises in the Eastern Pacific on March 27, in an area under the responsibility of the US 3rd Fleet.

USS Theodore Roosevelt and USS Abraham Lincoln : San Diego, California

Both the USS Theodore Roosevelt and the USS Abraham Lincoln are at North Island Air Base in San Diego, California, according to a website that records US aircraft carrier activity.

USS Ronald Reagan : Bremerton, Washington

Based on satellite imagery, the USS Ronald Reagan remains anchored in dry dock at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard at Naval Base Kitsap in Bremerton, Washington.

CNS Liaoning : Qingdao, Shandong

China's first aircraft carrier, the Liaoning, is seen at its home port in Qingdao, Shandong province, according to satellite images taken on March 26.

CNS Shandong : Sanya, Hainan

China's second aircraft carrier, the Shandong, is photographed at its home port of Sanya in Hainan province on March 25.

CNS Fujian : Bohai Sea

China’s third and most advanced aircraft carrier, the Fujian, is approaching the Bohai Sea off the country’s northeastern coast on March 23. The ship is undergoing its seventh sea trial, according to satellite images.
