On June 19, the Tunisian Interior Ministry said an attack with a sharp object occurred outside the Brazilian Embassy in the capital Tunis, killing a local security officer.

Police opened fire on the suspect, injuring him in the leg, before making an arrest.

Following the incident, authorities ordered the closure of roads leading to the Brazilian Embassy and increased security measures.

In an official statement, the Tunisian Interior Ministry said the security officer was "stabbed with a sharp object" after questioning a stranger who appeared outside the Brazilian Embassy.

Ministry spokesman Faker Bouzghaya said the security officer was later rushed to hospital but did not survive.

According to Bouzghaya, the attack was not related to terrorism and the suspect was said to have "mental problems."

Authorities have not yet determined the identity of this subject.

Tunisia has suffered a series of jihadist attacks that have killed dozens of people, including security personnel and foreign tourists .

The country's government claims to have made significant progress in the fight against jihadists in recent years.

However, a mass shooting occurred on the Tunisian resort island of Djerba last month, killing three police officers and two Jewish worshippers./.
