Zubimendi has high expectations. |
On July 6, Arsenal completed the signing of midfielder Zubimendi from Real Sociedad for a fee of nearly 70 million euros. Standard reported that the Spanish international earns around 86,000 euros a week at the Emirates Stadium, with a contract running until 2030.
Zubimendi's salary at Arsenal is a significant increase from what he earned at Real Sociedad (around €57,000 per week, according to Capology ). This figure does not include performance bonuses at the Emirates Stadium, along with huge bonuses in the Premier League and Champions League.
Before welcoming Zubimendi, Arsenal decided to part ways with midfielder Thomas Partey, who earned up to 200,000 euros per week. Partey hoped for a pay rise in his new contract but Arsenal rejected it. In the end, the two sides decided to go their separate ways, helping the Gunners save a significant amount of money on wages.
At Arsenal, Zubimendi will reunite with two former teammates, Martin Odegaard and Mikel Merino - the contract that the London club recruited from Sociedad last summer for 32 million euros. Together with Declan Rice, these are key factors in the "Gunners" midfield from next season.
Zubimendi also has 15 caps for the Spanish national team, and stands out for his ability to recover the ball, intercept and initiate attacks - qualities that coach Mikel Arteta is in dire need of to upgrade his midfield.
