In early April 2025, Mr. Truong Hanh and some members of the Truong Dinh clan in Duc Linh commune (Vu Quang district, Ha Tinh province) entered Dien Quang commune (Dien Ban town).
The purpose of the trip was to learn about a sage named Truong Quoc Dung - the real brother of Mr. Truong Dinh Vien - the sage of the Truong Dinh clan in Duc Linh commune. The whole group was happy to find the place of worship of the sage Truong Quoc Dung at the Truong clan temple in Ben Den village (Dien Quang commune).
Learning about the history of his hometown and family, Mr. Truong Hanh said that Mr. Truong Quoc Dung and his younger brother Truong Dinh Vien were from Nghe An province. Mr. Truong Quoc Dung followed Lord Nguyen to open up the country with a sword, stopped by the Thu Bon River and came to establish a career in Ben Den village. Mr. Truong Dinh Vien went to Ha Tinh to establish the Truong Dinh family in Duc Linh commune today.
For the Truong clan in Ben Den village, Dien Quang commune annually organizes the Thanh Minh Festival, children from all over return to attend the clan's death anniversary, burn incense to show gratitude to their ancestors, and strengthen their close relationship.
Also on April 3 this year (March 6), Dien Quang commune held the 18th Thanh Minh Festival of the year At Ty 2025. On all roads through 10 villages in the area, people and vehicles were bustling. Because this is the time when most of the 97 clans in Dien Quang will hold spring ceremonies, associated with tomb sweeping, so it gathers a lot of descendants from all over the country, even from abroad.
This is also an opportunity for children and grandchildren to reunite, to further emphasize the responsibility of joining hands, contributing, and building the family line, to enrich the homeland and country for eternal prosperity.
History records that Dien Quang commune was formed in the late 14th century. The ancestors of the clans mostly came from Nghe An and Thanh Hoa to open up and establish their careers. Through many ups and downs of history, the ancestors of the clans united, fought against natural disasters and enemies; leaving for their descendants the legacy and valuable traditions of solidarity, mutual love, and human morality.
Therefore, the Thanh Minh Festival not only honors the good traditional cultural values but also educates patriotism and historical traditions; guides clans to unite and strongly respond to the movement to build "Cultural Families", "Cultural Clans"...
Spiritual Power
March 14, 2022 is a memorable moment for the people of Duy Tan commune when Duy Xuyen district received the certificate of recognition of the Ba Thu Bon Festival as a national intangible cultural heritage.
The Ba Thu Bon Festival is one of the cultural and spiritual rituals bearing the imprint of the folk religious life of the residents associated with the Thu Bon River, expressing the desire for prosperity, praying for bountiful crops, favorable weather, and national peace and prosperity.
According to legend, Lady Thu Bon was a beautiful Cham female general, talented in commanding troops, and had fought in many battles. During one battle, when she was exhausted, she threw herself into the river to commit suicide, her body drifting downstream.
Lady Thu Bon was granted the title of “My Duc Thuc Hanh Bo Bo Phu Nhan Thuong Dang Than” by the Nguyen Dynasty King. To show gratitude to Lady Thu Bon, the local people built a shrine and held a solemn memorial service for her every year.
Mr. Nguyen Van Dung - a resident of Duy Trinh commune (Duy Xuyen) shared that Ba Thu Bon Festival attracts the attention of locals and tourists because the ceremony and festival parts are imbued with local cultural identity.
Typically, the ceremony includes the decoration ceremony, the royal edict procession, the water procession, the great sacrifice ceremony, and the royal edict completion ceremony. The festival includes boat racing, singing Bai Choi, Tuong singing, displaying local products, making cakes to worship the Lady, releasing flower lanterns, and martial arts performances...
What is special is that the Ba Thu Bon Festival not only honors the "Mother of the Land" but is also a cultural exchange between Vietnamese - Cham - Co Tu, clearly demonstrating the spiritual cultural identity of the region.
Over the past 300 years, the Ba Thu Bon Festival has become an important spiritual heritage for the people of Quang. The festival truly unites and arouses the spiritual strength to overcome challenges and build the homeland to develop more and more.
